this is why whenever i get into a car accident and i know for a fact it was my fault i just ask them nicely if they would be ok w handling this without getting insurance involved aka pay for their damages out of pocket. Yes it’s gonna cost you more but better than getting a point that doesn’t go away for years + increased rates imo.

If your policy is active you can file a claim at any time, no matter how long ago it was.
If your policy isnt no longer active, you can generally still file a claim for the time when it was active. There might be some s***ty companies that don’t honor this rule.
