I think that album gives very important context into why she ended up in the…straits she has, but I don’t think it did much positive for her career.
I also think Geidi Primes to Art Angels is a pretty tight, albeit light discography. I think she’d still have some relevance, although the post Miss A. songs have largely been completely dreadful
Then I would still see her as incapable of dropping a bad album. Ngl i had her on quite the pedestal especially after Art Angels
She shouldve just stayed making music on her laptop
She needs to make music on the floor again lol she said that’s her creative place. Did she make Anthropone sitting at a desk?!

I just wish she didn’t see herself as being bad at pop or not having complete confidence in her vocals. She doubled down on being producer first since that project, and once her actual creativity got sucked into Elon’s fart box…just surface level tech references and boring sub 2 minute tracks
This one I played a billion times tho
The best moments on that album are def her most vocal-y, to me

Elon is the equivalent of Yoko lol, it is so sad. I agree, her music hasn’t been the same since fatbox. I didn’t know she didn’t see herself as being bad at pop, that is f***ing insane. How can she listen to the singles from Art Angels & Genesis & think that. She is ARTPOP to the max. God the choruses on Art Angels sour. That makes me sad she feels that way
i enjoyed miss a, even though she hasnt really put out anything good since
what shes turned into after isnt too surprising even removing that album, just glad we got one last project while she could still be counted on to make good music
I also think she, like many artists, would be very aided by the pre social media world where we couldn’t hear/see your every thought
Miss A was a great album so I’d say it’d be a net loss I don’t want to be in a world without Idoru
the day this dropped

You didn’t like this one? This was the last one I enjoyed. Why is she talking about doing that AI s*** & collabing with machines? That is so stupid like, girl, you are all the talent you need. You don’t need noone else but you & laptop
the day this dropped
This one was real good too 👍

I can’t find the interview I read from her, but it’s something at least a few others have noted: reddit.com/r/Grimes/comments/upnhi0/i_dont_know_why_grimes_says_in_interviews_that
I think it’s moreso a thing where she has always been producer/tech first and maybe her voice just feels like a tool she didn’t feel as familiar or comfortable with?

she’s never understood how talented she is outside of producing, and while i think thats moved her to be creative with her vocals and helped in a lot of instances, i think it would be interesting to hear another poppy album where shes really embracing her talent
doesnt have to be like art angels but that was really a testament to how talented she is

!https://youtu.be/pzPElFdxMCM?si=KJaa_w7fiPU9zdrCtotally forgot this was after miss a, definitely her best since then

That’s a good point, I can definitely see her just viewing her voice as a tool. But, she has to remember it’s her melodies that are important. Noone cares what her lyrics say or how she sings, it’s her harmonies & melodies & choruses that make the songs so f***ing good imo. She can craft a pop song
she a 1 album wonder with or without it
Art Angels & Visions. Which one did you not think was good?
she a 1 album wonder with or without it
the fact people say this about both art angels and visions proves she’s not

Yeah it’s rough, there’s unfortunately some artists who even get praise for a tool in their arsenal and never really feel too comfortable using that tool. I imagine Grimes as a younger person being shy and out the way, so it prob stems from a personality thing
Even as recent as her feature along with Polachek and Dido, her vocals can clearly bring value to a good pop song. Idk if she’d say anything of value, but I do trust the sound of her voice would still hold up even in 2024
