I guess Das Racist could count as comedy rap but I dunno, they were as political as they were comedic and it seems like comedy rap has to have comedy as its main priority. Like, “If I Had”, “‘97 Bonnie & Clyde” and “Rock Bottom” take SSLP out of the comedy rap realm to me. Humor’s a big part of what Eminem does but he clearly never wants you to completely not take him seriously. When I think of comedy rap I think of goofier s*** like Lonely Island and MC Chris.

Dave Chappelle is political/social commentary and comedic too tho

But he’s a comedian; his job is to make you laugh. Das Racist’s job was to make rap music; the fact that they were funny (or even political) was a bonus, the way Chappelle or any other comedian being political is a bonus. If Chappelle makes a comedy special that’s not political at all, no one sees him as having failed at his job so long as it was still funny.
