Twin Peaks s1/s3
Boardwalk Empire s1/s2
True Detective s1
Miami Vice s1/s2
Deadwood s1 (I haven’t seen past that, but it’s incredible)
Rome s1
Old HBO was something special. They were like perfect long form genre distillations, with higher literary aspirations, and all the glorious content of Roger Corman productions. They’re now all IP s***, safe retreads, or small scale dramas about rich white people.
also Rome a classic
that Spartacus show too
just rewatched westworld season 1, definitely up there
I do wanna rewatch this. Without going to S02 it probably rips

The heavy exposition turned me off but i'm sure it's got cool ideas
dang I guess I should finally check out Deadwood cause the gf and I always looking for a good western but have seen pretty well every decent one
Only seen the first 2 seasons, but it's legit. First season eases you in and you quickly realize it's one of those shows like The Wire, that doesn't really care about letting you in or keeping things palatable. Very slow burn, but it's going somewhere. Swearingen is a standout character
2 and 3 are one long peak run. We don't talk about 4
i know 4 got a bad rep at the time. i wanna revisit just to see if it was really that bad

From the few episodes I could stomach, yeah you can really tell McGruder not even hands on with the show anymore
the brilliance of I May Destroy You is even more insane when you find out the inspiration for the story
Michaela’s acceptance speech
I used to recommend this show to everyone and has totally forgotten about it
No cap, feel like I've also forgotten about this show
But it's also difficult for me to recommend to especially women. Because Idk what traumas they may have which the show could end up triggering
But yeah, masterful show. Michaela Coel will always have my respect for making it
You just gotta accept the weirdness and sci fi aspects at some point and you’ll love it all
i actually think the last season closed it nicely, writers strike in the midway seasons is what really f***ed it up for a little bit. They recovered well imo
images you can hear

This episode alone makes it worth rewatching the whole thing
Mr Robot Season 4 is too perfect for me
Atlanta season 2
Fargo Season 2
Lost Season 4 (later half of 3 is strong)
Last season of Succession
Breaking Bad Season 4
Leftovers season 2
Watchmen was good imho
True detective (hated that last episode now that I think about it)
Loved the bear season 2
I know their is a s*** ton of others Im missing
Twin Peaks season 1
Bojack Horseman season 3/4
The Wire season 4
Last season of Moral Orel when things went haywire
You just gotta accept the weirdness and sci fi aspects at some point and you’ll love it all
Lol
4-7 is untouchable, but 5 is my favorite
Still worth watching? Or will the references fly over heads now

Absolutely 100% worth watching today. The early seasons in particular are extremely down to earth, life affirming TV that don't rely that much on references. Seasons 2 and 3 are slow but amazing.
Even though the peak years I mentioned do have a lot of references, they're not ALL that dated, and there's plenty of character-based humor, slapstick, wordplay, and expectation-subversion jokes that carry the weight.
True Detective s1

Breaking Bad s5
The Haunting of Hill House
