If your first thought about abortion is this then it's very telling and sad that you view the support of women having autonomy over their body as a tool used by men to get laid and not an actual belief that tens of millions of people around the world hold.

Keep perpetuating that dumb argument about women's rights. Abortion is murder /thread

Down syndrome aint as bad as people make it out to be. It sucks if you are born with serious heart defects but those are severe cases. Living with and raising a down syndrome individual is likely more comedic than tragic.

It’s not bad if you give proper care to the person which is something red states might not gaf about

I mean it takes 2 to tango bruh put more responsibility on the men to be more responsible instead of taking healthcare away from the women type s***

not saying its anyones fault each time theres so many types of situations but its like we out here scapegoating the women when we should be asking who's the one getting them pregnant and shouldn't they share more responsibility in the situation?

Also we widespread lack quality honest s***education, we need better access to contraception for everyone, and also paid maternity AND paternity leave, so if a child is brought into this world the family has a greater chance of being together during that important moment in time

It's relative. Raising someone with severe defects in a rich household is very different from raising one in an impoverished household. People always bring up a theoretical balance beam of abortion vs safety nets, but those nets really only go so far. Financial support from the government is no replacement for a family who actually loves you or the ability to socialize and develop on a normalized societal basis. If people exist with these defects, of course they should be taken care of as well as possibly in terms of safety nets, but I also don't like the idea that people with birth defects or chromosomal diseases is just something we should accept and deal with. It's a burden people will downplay and discuss but no one really wants it. Even the most religious people have to frame it as a moral test of faith when keeping the child rather it being a gift from god like a normal child.
I don't believe in plastering abortion on billboards or acting like it's some divine right or something women should be encouraged to do or be particularly proud of, but I'd rather pregnancies be ended early rather than raised by families who wish they never had them or raised by the state, no matter what grim that sounds. Unless we get to a point where everyone is following strict social norms and is only having s***for the sole purpose of recreation - or is able to on a widescale actually understand and use contraceptive - which is incredibly unlikely, then I think abortion needs to exist, in my view at least for the first trimester.

Severe defects are different. If a person cant
comprehend and/or is so physically impaired that he needs help with even the most basic of things then... All I know is if that was me I rather be dead.

I think euthanasia should be legal. If I had a terminal case I would like to have that choice.

    That's why it's so tricky.

I understand down syndrome people are still mostly functional but there is still a severe imbalance in terms of care between societal castes, and those castes are always going to exist no matter what, even under the best system of government possible. It's not solely a financial thing but a sub-cultural one too. Raising a down syndrome child in either a religious household or in a secular middle class suburban one is going to be fine. However, it's just true regardless that many people resent having mentally impaired children. That doesn't mean they are incapable of loving them but no one wants a down syndrome child over a normal child. I understand that people often say things in rebuttal to this "well no one wants a deaf child over a normal child either" and I agree. I don't think it's a good idea for anyone to ever have a child they're even remotely going to resent. It doesn't mean I think it should be illegal to have a down syndrome child or this should be government regulated; that'd be ridiculous. If people want to give birth to said child, they should still. I just think people should have the ability to control actions which predictably otherwise have long term consequences.

You are right man. It sucks raising a sick kid in third world countries with tribal mentality and caste systems, it's even harder if you are poor. Those are mostly also countries where abortion is illegal. That's why I said I rather live in a country where the majority of people would vote for euthanasia and where abortion is legal over a country with traditional views and large uneducated population.

About half of Americans call themselves pro-life, but close to 80% choose to terminate a pregnancy after a Down syndrome diagnosis. When it comes to their own lives, most don’t want to live by the rules they’d force on others.

Yeah, it's not surprising. I don't agree with Hanania on everything but I like his ability to be pragmatic ideologically in a way that universally makes every ideology seethe simultaneously. That is true about autism, but I feel like most low-spectrum autism most people don't care about (or alternatively i dont think is even detectable afaik).

pro life w conditions. ie any form of sexual assault.
if the woman was seeking to trap the man, he shouldn't have to pay child support. (or pay 1/8 of the cost.)

Also child support should be reformed. It's one of the worst situations to be in. People constantly lie about their co-parent, it's destructive.

Some people really shouldn't have babies. I pray for children born out of wedlock. It's the most unfortunate situation.

I'm against abortions when women just want to be thots. Tie your tubes and be unreproductive. Don't defile your womb, your temple with a list of Hotep Pharoah's in your p****.

The big argument: Is the fetus a person with the right to live? There is no academic consensus on this, so there are good arguments on both sides.

Personally, I think if someone doesn't want to be a parent they should be able to choose whether or not they want to go through the process of giving birth and take up the responsibilities raising a child.

    Keep it civil

abortion is essentially murder but its really just a personal decision.
