I either see people saying its his best or people saying its his worst seems like..
Me personally AH & Dawn are my fav albums of his by far so you know which side i’m on
I can’t tell you because literally every album sounds the same. Every song sounds the same. Groundhog day
Don't think people question the quality of the music, it's just that most of love Weeknd for other type of songs. It got some songs that I'm a big fan of like Less Than Zero or Is There Someone Else, but overall I want and need After Hours type of songs from him
148k a year after Super Bowl and #2 to Gunna played a part in perception at the time as well
its trash
It came out at a time when The Weeknd had just been through his last couple albums with a similar sound, he was everywhere with songs like BL, the SB and ppl were expecting something different. Most of the “hate” tho was more overblown and turn into meta discourse once gunna album came out
And gunna was just in the right spot, Thug was still around and was still on his run post SMF, it got viral, he managed to barely outsell Weekend and social media ran with it because it’s unusual for someone like gunna to outsell Weeknd of all ppl.
it's not that special as a whole album, but almost every song is immaculately produced and even well written
Gasoline
How Do I Make U Love Me
Sacrifice
Is There Someone Else
Don't Break My Heart
are up there with Michael's best songs when it comes to attention to detail
There's no bad songs on there so it has a lot of replay value, which has been the case for a lot of weeknd albums
People don’t clean they ears
Convinced that first couple of responses itt are from people that have only listened to the album once
third 80s influenced pop album in a row gets boring
Isn’t dawn fm the second album? And after hours isn’t even 80’s influenced?…..
Yall don’t even listen to the music lmao
It’s the best weekend album

starboy?
and how is after hours not 80s influenced lol, the synthwave/synth pop sound is all over that album, especially the back half
maybe its not as much as starboy and dawn fm but it's definitely there
My least favorite of the new trilogy by far but im not sure how to explain why. Doesn’t have as many smash/big moments like AH, and doesn’t have as many special moments to me as HUT, idk
I loved it instantly, and I remember it having almost a polarizing reception at first but it seems as of late people have warmed up to it now more than when it initially dropped.
It’s his most unapologetically “80s” inspired album and a lot of people don’t like that sound. Those who like the sound love the album.
Its the best out of the trilogy
no lie I think the cover has alot to do with it. weird off putting covers don’t always work for mainstream audiences and I feel like people are less likely to give s*** a chance. I have nothing to support this theory btw
great album
Its not divisive at all wym

Just cuz something has a synth in it doesn’t mean it’s 80’s influenced

First 5 actual songs are the strongest pop he's written. The other half people regard as dodgy due to length or features or Max Martin
I just find the song writing to be incredibly weak
