Only God Forgives
Y'all are sleeping on one of THE definitive films about wounded masculinity
For a lot of these, the style IS the substance. I'll go with Longlegs tho.

if the style is the substance then doesn’t that mean the director was prioritizing style over substance
but yeah saltburn is like the amalgamation of people's criticisms of directors who are often given this title of "style over substance" if they were actually deserved
horrid film
Sick of the Longlegs slander on here
my b bro

Look i’ll admit the promo for it suckered a lot of people into expecting something nuts and it obviously wasn’t. It was really more of a thriller than horror.
With that being said I thought it was fantastic with everybody doing a great job as their characters. The cinematography was dope and had some cool shots I liked a ton. The story served its purpose and sure you can nitpick the expo dump but for the run time I didn’t mind it. If anything I wish they left a little up to the audience & let us piece it together. I see why people have their gripes with it.

I just think it's a shallow way to frame it, but I'm probably being overly autistic. Substance, as far as I can tell, is just another way to say, "it gave me something to think about" and that can be achieved through vibe / feeling. It's like when people make the "plot movie" / "character movie" distinction. We all know what it means, and it's a way to explain a type of movie, but often the two things are connected and inseparable.

Emerald Fennell is a hack
Smoking Aces

But I still love it
lmaoo I loved this movie back in the day
Haven't seen it since back then tho

ngl I have no idea what the story is in this movie was but I cannot ignore the technical achievement of having an hour-long continuous scene that has a lot of outdoor coverage, extras, and things for the characters on screen to do in that time (I remember that zipline thing being kinda wild in hindsight), and thus still really like this movie
Also there's a scene where someone plays DDR on the Playstation 2 with a soft mat, that is some real s***
Such a stupid phrase
