Was listening to osamason and it dawned on me, whats the difference outside of literal age in most these rappers?

Like ppl will say someone like Osama for the youth but Future can be 30s and they talk about the same exact s***, women, d****, money etc all on trap beats

he should be threatening to OD like Danny Brown was at his age

Osamason won’t be able to remain this same character from now until his 40’s where Future is now

But Future probably wouldn’t have been able to if he blew up in the early 2000’s as a teen with Dungeon Family. Maybe he would have had a Wayne type career tho and still been around

Debuting after 25 and being able to maintain a character like Ross or Future is lowkey a better position than debuting before 21 blowing up fast and now you kinda have the child star syndrome lol. Early 20’s is that sweet spot

Honestly, the bar was simply higher for rappers in the 90's and 00's in terms of actual skill or ability to make classic albums or hits.

For instance, Silkk The Shocker was deemed a "terrible" rapper in the 90's but Silkk ironically has a better flow and pen than many run of the mill mainstream rappers under 30 today.

Lot of them are hesitant to be even called 'rappers' now and would rather opt for 'artist'

Don't know if this is still a think but a lot of the sound cloud era niggas were doing this.

It's because you get instantly put in a box, and are expected to meet requirements of what oldheads think a rapper should be. Like how the media was pressing Uzi and Yachty when they actually CAN rap they just rather be melodic.

Dynamic rhyme placements vs static rhyme placements, aka serving poetic form vs serving a catchy flow perfect for freestyling and punching in quotables

Generally speaking - the difference is experience and perspective. The topics may be the same, but there are years of experience (relationships, taking time with your craft, becoming a better communicator) separating the gens.

See that’s stupid. For a while dudes haven’t been able to rap but the old heads still equate it to bars even those do matter at least some of the new artists put out some good songs. Uzi can rap he nice

The sooner ppl realize that the entertainment business is all about conditioning the easier questions like this will be answered

The only difference is conditioning. Presentation. Aesthetic.
