I get why ppl f*** with Trav.. most ppl are not trying to hear an artist that'll put them in deep thought whenever they want to listen to music, as that can be tiring. Travis provides pictures of hedonism, nightlife and youth culture, which can be perceived as motivation as well as escapism.
He does much more with his production and voice than most of his peers too.
Sonic wise, he's cut from the experimental cloth of GOOD music/Ye (at least mainstream wise) so that also helped his image. Plus as someone whose been following Travis from his early days, his growth has been fascinating to watch

True, most of his projects are artsy and he has a little bit of Kanye and Cudi in him. Used to think he was a biter but as time went on I noticed more and more artists biting him, which obviously goes to prove that he had a distinctive sound.
