I'm not saying that I dont do any mixing at all.
All I do is add a soft clipper and do a bit of levelling, I meant that its a waste of time doing all that other s*** like EQing your drums and getting a perfect mix.
(Part 1 too long for ktt)
Nah you're right it def doesn't have to be a perfect mix especially if its something that you're sending off to someone else and the rest of the job will end up getting done but some of those extra little things to help too. But mostly for artists that produce themselves (like myself) being able to do multiple jobs is something that extremely necessary now and hard to get a look or a chance from anyone without already having a quality product at first introduction. A lot of people that take advice regarding this with the 808s and are trying to do it all themselves (even tho not necessarily wrong) might not have an engineer to take it to afterwards and arent aware of stuff like why not to go over 0 and LUFS reduction from streaming services so that why I'm really trying to push that info out there because especially since there's a lot of beginners on this site (one of them being me at one point in time) any information is good information to them and it still may help but a lot of people are in different situations so some information they get may end up harming instead of helping. For me as an example as I kid I wanted to be an artist and wanted to start and was going on youtube for beats and stuff but couldnt find anything that I really wanted and especially since I couldnt buy any at the time and could really only use the free ones so i decided to learn how to make beats and I was on ktt a lot at the time and looking for information wherever I could on how to do the things that I really wanted to do and how to get things how to sound the way I wanted to because I couldnt afford to hire a producer and an engineer and studio time and all this I was only 14. When you're starting out learning something its easy to listen to what you see and think it's the correct way for you to do it and it still took a while for me to truly get all the correct information that I needed to achieve what I wanted and shuffling through things that werent really the correct information that I needed for what I was doing.

(part 2)
Even listening to the producers who I loved and hearing around things that they do ofc everyone loves that information but when its half the story to behind whats going on it doesnt really lead you to the same product that you hear when you go listen to the favorite tracks they made and going through that can be really frustrating and being able to know how to get that certain sound can help but only halfway. Informing those people going through all this for the first time trying to learn how to sound like the people they love will only help them better if they know how to make it sound like what they're hearing not just what it sounds like before it get to a certain point in the process of the song before it gets to the point where everyone else gets to hear what it sounds like. The first track I put out thinking that I did everything correctly and that it sounded great in my daw I upload to distrokid and listen to it on spotify only to listen to it and hear that it didnt sound anything like what it was supposed to sound like and that was just because of LUFS alone but even coming further from that point and learning much more that helped me improve the sound and quality of my music to achieve what I always wanted my work to sound like back when I first started at 14. And this doesnt even just apply to people trying to be an artist on their own even people who just produce too. For learning producers trying to sell beats online you might be doing what you were told by one person but it still doesnt sound like the other guy you see selling beats that's also mixing and mastering their own work. Giving them information that helps you get to the final point of where they are looking get will help them and not have to figure out later that the thing that they thought they were doing correctly had a lot more behind it. It helps everyone get better at the thing that they want to do most. Knowing half the story leads you on a long tangent that I really want to help people skip because it's definitely not fun to go through and can be really frustrating. Sometimes even wanting to give up and filled with frustration because you think that there's something that you just can never do and theres a secret thats being held that only the best know about not realizing that you can do it too if you only had the correct information and that was even myself at a lot of points in time in the past and I still am still learning and always will be learning. Doing it all on my own I wish someone gave me all the info that I know now which would have saved me years of doing things the wrong way struggling to get the result that I really desired. I know a lot of people would appreciate that like I know I would have and did when I learned. There's a lot of people who are willing to do whatever work they need to really be the best at what they are trying their best to do.

For better 808s at a lower price:
Go to your local eq and cut out bad frequencies (like you would cut out bad vibes from your life)
Camelcrusher
Lowpass filter
Mono or stereo compression (don't use fl's compressor), set the ratio to 1.5-2, maybe pump the gain a lil and mess with adsr
Maybe eq cut below 20hz and boost around 60-80 idk depends on how good ur drum sample is
1. Choose a good sample
2. Choose a good sample
3. Choose a good sample
4. Choose a good sample
5. Choose a good sample
he asked how to make them hit like pierre/southside
southside himself said that all he does is turn them up
you think southside mixes his own beats? lol
Tune your sample. This is good practice for all samples.
If your 808 is an F, tune it to F1/F0/F2. If you play any note on the keyboard it'll be accurately playing that pitch. Alchemy in Logic does this automatically.
my 808 is g sharp 😎
