“Hey can you do me favor and pick up a couch from my friends house and bring it to mine?”
“Will there be food?”
“sure I'll give you some money"
"Nope"
"What? You want me to hand make something?
"I'm hand bringing that couch in aren't I?"
I’ve been noticing my younger sister (18) smoking weed a lot more recently. My parents don’t know but it’s to the point that I can see them finding out before the summer. I don’t think she knows I know but it’s just feels a little weird. I’m not against weed and I don’t smoke myself but it does make me feel some type seeing my younger sister do it. It’s not really the smoking but the fact that she isn’t the most responsible person, and I can see her making bad decisions going forward. Earlier tonight she walked in from the back door and I asked what she was doing, and gave me an answer that let me know she thought she could do what ever she pleased.
Should I continue to mind my business or should I have a word with her? Part of me wants to have a word with her but at the same time I honestly don’t see myself getting through with her, I never have been able to. So it’s kinda pointless. Thoughts?
i've been thru the same situation as the youngest sibling, your words probably won't reach her until the point where she gets caught up or something. that's how it was with me, but i did take my bro's words on being careful. like eyedrops, not smelling, not being careless, driving etc,. in your case i would just say be careful very broadly. let her figure out the specifics.
maybe say something like "i won't tell anyone but if i was able to find out without you telling me then it's prob not long til mom and dad do if they don't already know". then she can decide if that spooks her, makes her be more careful, and at the least teaches her she's not slick or invincible. and she can never say you didn't warn her

When the opportunity arises I’ll give her some advice but I don’t think I’ll get through. I think she has to f*** up first to realize being more careful like you said. Part of the reason why I’m leaning against just letting her learn from her actions is due to an argument we had the other day. Nothing I say can ever get through to her regarding every possible situation. She’s at the age where she thinks her age defines what’s okay to do.
