what is it about the human brain that is different from a neural network? arent our thoughts and actions the result of a series of cascading interpretations of our external and internal stimuli that are conditioned to produce a particular result for a particular stimulus? Isnt every idea a product of several basic concepts that are structured in a particular fashion, a fusion of different concepts that we have previously learned? How is it that when introduced to an entirely new form of art, we can judge and compare it to not just what we have seen before, but some abstract embedding of our own preferences?

I think there is something to be said for unsupervised learning, for understanding the basic structure of data before even considering the ramifications in terms of how we can address a real world problem. I think with a combination of learning how to optimize outputs using a learned function instead of simply comparing our output to some manually annotated input, the ability for networks to structure themselves, and a focus on partitioning tasks into a network of subnetworks specialized to do individual tasks, we might be able to achieve true super intelligence, something that does what humans do better than we do

i strongly believe there will be some very crazy developments in the theory of machine learning that will accelerate things people assume wont be affected by machine learning for a long time
