Ive had issues with ableton not opening cause 2 of my vst folders contained a shortcut that pointed to each other, and therefore got stuck in a loop while indexing (im guessing). Maybe it was that

ya ive had that happen a couple times
there's a way to start ableton without it scanning the vsts then u just rescan and it tends to fix it. or u gotta go 1 by 1 and find the f***ed up vst.
