Kendrick is what lupe wanted to be, mainstream success wise.

Lupe is a better lyricist but he's too good, and he loves to let you know how good he is through the complexity of his lyrics and subject matter.

Kendrick doesn't really care about complexity, contrary to popular belief. Even his super contrived concepts like the prayer and how much a dollar cost are easy to follow and have normal diction. He has actual club songs, even if he's hit or miss, unlike Lupe who doesn't really have any.

He's not above "dumbing s*** down" (whatever that means)

Kendricks music is waaaaay more personal and emotional than Lupe's. This is on top of being better produced and more enjoyable to listen to. His delivery is 10000x better than Lupes also. Lupe basically says all of this in the clip

By contrast I've unironically listened to Lupe albums and picked up books after to understand certain concepts more deeply. With respect I'm never doing that after listening to a Kendrick album.

I have both artists in my top 5 but it makes total sense to me that Kendrick is more popular. Its fair for Lupe to point this out, but he does look like a hater by beating the point into the ground year after year after year

Nah I think he does think Dot is nice. I mean he is practically saying that here, but just that when it comes to pen to pad nobody can fw Lupe. I think it may be some jealousy sprinkled in there though. Kendrick having this much appeal while being such a lyric-driven artist (which is rare these days) probably bothers Lupe. He wants that crown, but he's just not as good as Dot in these other areas of music making.

Also Lupe doesn't do himself any favors with how he argues
