Drake is from forest hills and chubbs is from Scarborough, they’re not childhood friends lol. If you know anything about rap , you need some type of street influence and at the time in 09 , Drake was being tested in Toronto because he was the guy from degrassi trynna to jump in the music scene. Once he got robbed at gun point he started to get affiliated with the Galloway boys a gang in Scarborough ( p reigns ppl) and chubbs happened to be apart the same crew. They had a name in the streets , so from that point forward it was a you protect me and I help you type of relationship. They would later become brothers as the years went on, that’s the gist. Remember in 08-09 it wasn’t ovo yet it was ATF(all things fresh) lol I remember all this because I’m 30 and from Scarborough. Real Drake fans would know about all this though.

Man there’s so much pride if you’re from here. To make it on his level.. it’s enough to make you emotional. Better to be “extorted” at home than abroad, where you have absolutely no roots. It’s kind of table stakes in rap. You have to be public with your wealth, which makes you a target, there’s no way around it. These guys are as close to childhood friends as he’d ever have in the industry. It’s like being the only whale, the city had never really seen it.. move somewhere else in the states and it’s not really that impressive. I think it’s a mix of those things.. surprised the Weeknd didn’t do something similar. I think Drake also likes being the centre of the universe.. maybe the weeknd doesnt, and that definitely comes with staying where you came up if you make it

I just think that the more wealth you have and the more public you are with it.. the more of these kinds of people it attracts. There’s always a bigger fish who wants a piece for one reason or another and has the means to squeeze you for it in one way or another. Like for example, do you remember when OB was around he always seemed to be tied in with Hells Angels?

No I don't remember, but I do agree that he certainly has some backing in addition to his personal security especially with the way he moves in Toronto, but actual personal/financial ties would be crazy

Bro absolutely not. These guys are all from Kingston Road. They linked up around the time P Reign was popping.. probably replacement girl times. The reality is you can’t be as rich and public .. and a s*** disturber as Drake is in a city like Toronto without getting tapped in (lowkey extorted) or else you’re 100% going to get robbed and made an example out of. This is rap 101 though.. I’m sure they’ve turned into genuine friendships at this point but it’s like how all the wealth concentrates in the top 1%.. the entire rap scene concentrated in the top 1% (Drake) .. that’s why Hush was writing for him, RepsUp protects him etc.. it’s way more productive to pile all of the energy into the one golden child then everyone try and make it on his level and fail.

EDIT: Toronto is a small city and people from all corners seem to know each other, but the reality is at the time Drake was on degrassi any small level of local fame made you a “guy” and everyone knew him and I guarantee at that time he was a lick.. but the east end boys are smart and didn’t kill the golden goose
