FPS, RBD, Rich Flex, Wants and Needs, LNCL, LIG, Jimmy Cooks, Wait 4 U, and Knife Talk are all objectively major hits lol.(There’s more I can name too lmao)
Wait 4 U the biggest out of all these. Don't know bout LNCL or Wants and Needs.
I'm not mad at people questioning it because Drake clearly slowed down on trying to make a pop hit and zerod in on Wheezy and TayKeith type songs and his melodic bag.
Plus we don't know when UMG pressed the button for him. Arguably UMG doesn't care about promoting his new music because he probably owns it now and they only need the new music because it draws people to listen to his back catalog.
All in all OP aint wrong for asking but hip hop in general hasn't had a Shaboozey type hit in a long ass time.
Hits nowadays in general don’t feel like what they did back then. It’s not only a drake issue. Out of all the hiphop superstars left, Drake been putting up the most amount of “major hits” out of all of them. You won’t see threads like this being made about other rap stars tho
Even though it's trash, it's Toosie Slide.
That was the last truly global anthemic hit Drake dropped but even it doesn't compare to his 2010's hits.
His hits afterward especially LNCL still did well on streaming but don't feel all that widespread compared to his 2010's hits.
Now, to be fair, this 100% has to do with the decentralization of the media and how many people are in their own music bubbles now.
Inescapable rap songs like NLU are now rare and truly a lightning in a bottle moment. We're just not in the decade of inescapable smash hits anymore outside of some pop acts.
Even Taylor Swift's latest album doesn't have a single smash hit that feels inescapable and she's supposed to be the biggest artist on the planet.

Nigga bored in his airplane making tiktok songs one month into covid is not a hit 😂 I’m sorry
In regards to Drake making rap the "biggest genre", that's a pretty tricky argument.
I think Drake dropping his poppiest album(Views) right when streaming started becoming a major force in music played a role in integrating hip hop with the streaming era but tons of rappers played a bigger role in popularizing rap as a genre overall.
The dynasties among Def Jam, Death Row, Bad Boy, Aftermath, and Cash Money planted the seeds for hip hop's dominance and mass appeal before SFG even dropped.

Like I said, it's a trash hit but the radio played that s*** more than any other Drake hit this decade.
I remember hearing it in public spaces a lot and getting annoyed af.
The other Drake songs were popular on streaming and memeable(esp. Rich Flex) but I found them much more avoidable than Toosie Slide.

The feeling not being widespread is definitely what I’m getting at. No denying that he’s had hits in the 2020’s but they don’t feel as large and encompassing as peak Drake
Like a lot of people said tho you can’t be in your prime hit making era forever so it’s no slight against him. I think he has a few more left in the chamber though, very interested to see what shape it comes in

I think Drake's style of music plays a role too.
Outside HNVM, Drake is largely doing trap music, downtempo R&B, and lyrical joints with limited hooks these days which don't have as much wide appeal as his Pop, Dancehall, and upbeat R&B songs.
I can't even remember the last time Drake made a strong hook. Think about Aston Martin Music, Best I Ever Had, I'm On One, and Hotline Bling for instance. The hooks to those songs are like earworms and stay in your head. Drake's hooks have been lacking like crazy this decade and I think it impacts his ability to give his songs that 2010's level staying power besides the era we're in.

“We gon be alright if we put Drake on every hook” by Wayne seems bad now. He was on Nate Dogg level in 09-12
Can we just make one big ass “I hate drake” thread?

Not naming Girls Like Girls is nasty work

Yeah. Even his stimulus package isn't as strong as it used to be.
People keep saying that SexyRedd and Camila were bound to flop in the 1st place but this is the same Drake who gave Gucci Mane a big hit that went 4 times Platinum on an album that sold less than 40k fw.
And that's not even factoring in the Yes Indeed and Look Alive in 2018.
I would also give Drake 75% of the credit for not like us
That song wasn't going anywhere if it wasn't about him
I think the metrics changed as time has gone on but prob wait 4 u unless I’m missing something newer
her loss is the last project that unanimously is accepted as a smash in terms of general public perception
Sticky was huge, at least in montreal. Like i heard that outside everywhere i went all summer it shut the city down. So like HNVM in general had some huge songs. Maybe not passion fruit or one Dance level but that s*** was literally everywhere here. I haven’t heard a song that was everywhere like that outside on the street since here

mais c'est parce que les français aiment la musique dance
