Side note but related: I stand on my prediction that 2025-2026 is gonna see unprecedented sales for an album - 21 level sales. Idk what album idk by whom but I see where this s*** is headed

    Bump when correct

Only thing is it won’t be from any of the heavyweights we looking at now

    Exactly agreed

Hiphop sales were actually down 30% before this “battle”

It was a good business model for hip hop at the time.

Niggas dont go outside or have any actual pulse on what people around them fw so its easier ti rely on numbers

Simoultaneously ties in with Drake using that to end all subjective criticism of himself in the early 2010’s/using that as a huge separator between him and his peers. It dont matter if he lame or has a white mans voice or is a simp if he the top seling rapper

Success and the perception/pursuit of it is some peoples only personality trait lol niggas turn real lame when you subtract the money and accolades which is why thats all some people have

And to be fair it really also goes back to Hov/50/Pac

Easier regarding what? How they access the music? For example, if an album has a high sales record that person would go out and buy it because of it?

Its easier for someone who doesnt actually go out like that to hear what people are actually bumping in cars/clubs/people they hang out with to rely on “numbers” in discussions about what artists are hotter/more popping

Cause the dumb niggas that can't articulate why they believe one artist is better than the other can just use numbers as a lazy braindead excuse

always been in the pop genre
but not something normal ppl talk about irl so it really took off among the casuals on twitter
rap got filled up with pop fans in recent years, so they took it with them
nowadays every single fanbase care about them but only if it suits the agenda they are pushing

yeah it's crazy like even sunn o))) fans are saying crine we outsold your goat merzbow 😂

  • Biggie said to Nas you finally made your money back after It Was Written did numbers

why are they looking at each other’s lips like that

    Anything else is subjective

Even numbers don’t tell the whole story. That’s one of the biggest misconceptions about the idea of stats in all fields

  • JPEGMAFIA

He had a whole feud with 50 Cent over first week sales lol

Yea that "beef" was not about who could sell more is better , it was to get people to buy records
