I been having this thought for a long while and I have to say whenever I go into discussions about the Top 25 best MCs or I try to write songs myself .

Sometimes I wonder if writing a perfect hook by yourself is even going to give you more credit as a MC, when majority of the skills is based on the verses.

I’m not sure if they can be mutually exclusive. I guess you can have a s*** song with a fire verse but personally I’m not listening if I don’t enjoy the song itself

I feel like Jadakiss is kinda the right example for this
Where it could be said he probably never dropped a bad verse
But he never managed to put the package together (for his whole career/project wise etc.) to make a case for being even near a GOAT conversation

verses are what truly matter when niggas discuss lyricism
but a strong hook can save decent/mediocre verses
trash hook can ruin amazing verses

Um Jadakiss being in someone top 10 top 5 isn't crazy or unheard of lol hooks and hits and s*** wouldn't change his rankings in those convos

I'm not saying people shouldn't have Jadakiss in their top 5/top 10 if they want to, nothing wrong

Just about how he's a good example of what it's like when the verses are all fire but they don't always put the whole package together so he doesn't appear in the 'universal' top lists
