I get the effort, but unfortunately not everyone is open for that. It's understandable though. A lot of workers are just there to clock in and out with minimal interaction outside of familiar staff/coworkers; it can be overwhelming at times, especially during a rush or in between tasks and management.

It might seem odd to have a job that requires basic conversation and contact, but that's just the limit for most.

Often I found myself doing the reverse if time permitted: taking my time with customers while on the clock as the worker, because I understand it's a two way street that's good to have at heart.
