“Im tryna see some African heritage represent homosexuality” gotta be a joke
ngl this is a mildly odd post
anyways i think black niggas be way more homophobic than white people are
idk what it exactly is but it’s like a cardinal sin to be gay and black, so that would stamp out any sort of femboy representation off rip

We have a culture of hyper masculinity due to generational trauma stemming from slavery and centuries of oppression

i also think hip-hop culture plays into that whole hyper masculinity angle too that discourages any sort of feminine nature for men just in general, it’s odd because for men in general emotions are frowned upon, but black people are expected to even be stronger than just the average white man in America just overall
@Brave you could probably outline this more thoroughly, i’d be interested in your take(s)

Hip-hop is an extension of the black experience for better or worse
From Tupac to Youngboy to Common to Kendrick we all apart of the same struggle that stems from the same place and the culture built from it
Genetically yeah you can say people of African descent are literally built different but that’s a discussion that can lead to things I’d rather not get into

They are. It’s very uncomfortable at my job (literally everyone is black except one guy) and they are very openly homophobic.

It starts with the black community in the US being hardened as a result of prejudice, and when you factor in the traditionalist influence of Christianity on our moral values, the two coalesce into a fixation on hyper masculinity. Most cultures that have to “make it out the mud” are hyper masculine if you notice (you also have to factor our genetics into this when we talk about how they were twisted into the Buck stereotype from slavery that persisted into the image - and expectation of - black masculinity, along with athletics)
Hiphop is an extension of this that also branched into its own brand of hyper masculinity. This leaves not much room for anything resembling femininity in black masculine expression. But in my outlook, I think there’s a space for us be more vulnerable and in touch with our feminine side - and that be seen as cool

I understand that but at what point are folks just gonna understand that s*** don’t f***ing matter.
Black families quick to s*** on someone coming out as gay but turn a blind eye to the uncle in the family that beats the s*** of his wife. Black families be shielding women beaters in they family but wanna purge anyone gay. S*** don’t make sense
That hyper masculinity has lead to people turning a blind eye to black men who exhibit very violent behavior.

Things are getting better but many of us are still in poverty, still in s***ty schools still in broken homes. Until the conditions our people come from improve we won’t.

u basically said "i understand that this is why things are the way they are" and then immediately followed that with "but why can't things just not be this way?"

Move to any major city, including Atlanta you’ll find em OP
This is also true.
Also @edumist you right on target 🎯. Colonizers got niggas so brainwashed we think there was no such thing as homosexuality in Africa until they came (which couldnt be much farther from the truth, so many records of it in pre-colonial africa)
The irony is the most homophobic african countries are all backed by Western missionaries.
I love religion but some of these Christians are going to hell for what they’ve done to our people fam
