Cardi is everywhere, and she has lots of huge hits. She was a bonafide hitmaker and got like 10 hits in 1 year. Not to mention she been in hella controversy (Nicki beef, pregnancy, WAP, politics, etc) There's no denying her peak felt like a huge cultural moment.
Travis has never been a consistent hitmaker either. Like he gets 1-2 hits per year max INCLUDING features and that's about it.
He has never had a Drake/Cardi/Lil Baby/Lil Wayne/etc type streak where he was pushing 5+ hits in a year.
It's all just smoke and mirrors with him for the most part. He has a huge base, but he has not had a huge run.
true but if you're going off music, into tabloids people probably know trav from kylie if that's what they're reading. idk how much that should count, even tho it makes artists more popular
and he's not a consistent hit maker, but as i said neither are some artists who had long runs at the top. hits are only one part of being a big artist
when he released two s***ty singles and they both somehow debuted at 1
Both due to bundles which will no longer count towards charts.
Just like Jackboys debuted #1 with 154k, and nearly half of that was actually bundles.
ASTROWORLD debuting with 500k, and nearly half of that was actually bundles.
Really he just was the absolute smartest with the bundle system, let's see how his 2021 trajectory goes.
I remember Nicki had that meltdown because he spent another week #1 with his album and blocked her due to bundles too (altho she was using them also)
SICKO MODE also had bundles that week it went #1, and his album went #1 yet again blocking 6IX9INE.
Bundles was really giving him EVERY SINGLE #1 its gonna be interesting to see how he does now

Nigga's gonna have Ronald McDonald featured on his next single.
Drake still more popular overall but among younger demographics Travis the biggest rapper
Thats why the narrative makes sense bc who cares what 30 yr olds are listening to
It matters more because the 30+ are the ones likely to actually pay for music. The younger audience are either relying on parents money or listening to his music for ad-supported free platforms.
She's the bigger artist. The only real argument for Travis is that Astroworld did bigger numbers than IoP but that was two years ago. As of today she has more monthly listeners on Spotify.
And as far as marketability she's up there with Travis if not higher. She's turned down the Super Bowl halftime show and had multiple Super Bowl commercials from Pepsi and Amazon
She's a personality first whose music additionally feeds into her appeal. Travis is the exact reverse of that.
Dude no I’m just saying that was part of what motivated me to make the thread not bc of Stan wars
Drake being a Popstar I can agree with ofc. As far as numbers travis’s biggest song is still sicko mode which has the drake stimmy and is a two year old song. Nothing new he’s dropped has had the same staying power (can’t speak on Franchise yet)
Again I’m not trying to hate on Travis I was just looking for clarification
So you are only judging how big an artist is by billboard hits?
Travis has 2 number 1's and 7 entries in the top 10
Kendrick has 4 number 1's and 4 entries in the top 10
Kendrick ain't part of the few biggest rappers either now?
Cmon fam everybody who's in tune with the genre knows Travis is one of the biggest out rn. And he IS the biggest one for the younger generation
He really replace Cole in the big 3 imo
She's a personality first whose music additionally feeds into her appeal. Travis is the exact reverse of that.
Travis sells more merch than albums. Travis is a streetwear brand first whose music feeds into the appeal
if she can tour and stream albums equally then she's as big.
but it's not even just doing an arena tour, it's being able to tour for as long and gross as much.
idk what the figures are but i wouldn't be surprised if the last trav tour grossed $50m+
i think to be one of the biggest rappers in this era your tour numbers have to get into ye and drake territory while your music is still current. And you have to stream consistently, like Trav and cardi both do. it's obviously about more than pure streaming numbers tho, otherwise nicki is top 4 right now.
where's Kendrick compared to these tho for people? his album will probably be really big, he's still on the billboard 200, money trees gets played like it's a current track and he can tour, but i doubt he's close to Trav, Cardi, Nicki, Drake and Post in streaming right now
Well Cardi's touring is a complete unknown because she refuses to tour. But she's already shown she's capable of doing individual arena shows. And as recent as 18 months ago she was co-headlining a festival with Travis.
Kendrick is easily #2. The only question is how close he is to Drake
It matters more because the 30+ are the ones likely to actually pay for music. The younger audience are either relying on parents money or listening to his music for ad-supported free platforms.
people aren't buying music like that anymore, it's mostly streaming now
She's a personality first whose music additionally feeds into her appeal. Travis is the exact reverse of that.
since he got with Kylie, Travis has been the same as that, not the reverse
His management and marketing teams are incredible.
They've been strategic with it but they've made this whole mysterious megastar narrative they've been pushing this whole time into a real thing.
