Imagine not being able to watch your own content because Plex's authentication went down.

Imagine paying to watch your own content.

Imagine not being able to create accounts for friends on the fly.

I've never had to do this, I use my own content the only thing I've had to pay for was a plex share.

As in you paid to gain access to someone elses server? Yeah, that makes sense because the person you paid has either a plex pass

Yeah that's what I meant but even before that I never had to pay to stream my own stuff at home. Now I might have to pay if I share my content with other people if that's the problem you've been having. But as far as using my own server I've been able to stream off my laptop, TV, and phone without paying.

The only way I've seen a 100% free route is by using a web browser to play media instead of an Android/iOS app. Using the app itself puts a limit of 1 minute on playback, no matter if you're in network or remote, until you pay to unlock the app.

Either way, I'll never use Plex. The only reason I have Emby is because everything is managed by me. I can create an account for someone & just shoot em my IP and they're good. No need to have them signup on Plex, tell me their email & then add em to my share.

The only time someone isn't able to play media is when I don't have electricity.

That said, I don't even play my media using Emby.
