john is prolly the most iconic horror character of the 21st century but he is not exactly the "greatest"/most well written character, he's pretty flawed if we're keeping it a buck

if you look at amanda's backstory, her trauma, her psychology, her moral ambiguity etc she really is one of the most psychologically complex horror villains ever, she acts almost entirely on emotion: obsession, admiration, love, spite, scorn, vulnerability, fear, hate, anger, sadism, even compassion (gabriela, adam, etc, in her twisted way of course) and she is going to insane lengths to act out on all of these emotions like you don't wanna be this unpredictable psycho's worst enemy

thing with most horror villains is they're terrifying because they're inhuman which makes them one-dimensional and predictable, amanda is terrifying because she's pretty much the epitome of unpredictable, girl is the definition of batshit crazy

obviously, she isn't the star of the show or more iconic than john but in terms of psychological depth and narrative weight she is the most interesting character in the franchise
