Recently it’s been easy to see and follow artists opinions on politics and what they do in their private life. Imagine if legendary artists back in the day were on social media and their personal life was more accessible to follow. A lot of groundbreaking and legendary artists would surely be cancelled. Are we in the age where an artist has to follow a certain agenda to have a successful career? Personally I feel like it’s ignorant to cancel an artist and partake in ruining their career over a view they had that’s against the mainstream and is put in the spotlight for it. Imagine if we just listened to people who had the exact same views as us? That’s boring and that’s now what being a human is about. I don’t want to name any artists and I don’t want to say I’m right wing or anything, truthfully I don’t pay attention to any of that stuff at all. So when I see my favorite artists being cancelled for their political views, it’s kind of mind boggling. I feel like there’s room for genuine discussion on this topic. It’s kind of lame to see mobs of people attacking an artist for believing in something Twitter is against.

I’m not defending artists who’ve gone to prison for actual crimes, just for having polarizing beliefs and opinions.

it all depends on a person to person basis but i feel like there’s gotta be a limit cos we can’t just be excusing phil spector, r kelly and elvis presley but i do feel there’s a lot of artists where it can apply for like as much as kanye put niggas through bullshit i feel like i can still separate the s*** he’s done from his music. at the end of the day though i think it all gotta do with how you interact with art being made by morally questionable individuals

Yeah like with R Kelly I get that, he’s actually done awful things as a human being.

r kelly like the most important r&b artist of the past 25 years but his crimes linked with his music too where it’s hard to separate it when he said Little cute Aaliyah’s got it on a song
