hey guys. need my ktt fellas advice! i’ve been wanting to make music for a while but haven’t done so due to paying off debts. but it has been an excuse not to start and now I’m 23, I want to get going. i just want to be able to make music in my own room and learn everything myself, and not expensive. so the questions are:

    • where do i start? it will be quite overwhelming at first
    • what equipment do i need? the obvious ones i think of is a mic, laptop with a daw software, headphones, a keyboard. anything else? any certain brands to be recommended?
    • how much time should i dedicate to it? it will be the learning of making beats, engineering and recording
    • recording techniques?
    • techniques in general?

any other tips/advice, please drop it in here. thank you!🙏🏽

that is definitely the plan, but it's more on how do i approach it, where to start and being efficient with going about it.

    Ableton live 10

    Get a focusrite interface

    Midi keyboard

Umm maybe at least 2 years of making garbage beats before you make anything you’re truly proud of unless u got an insane work ethic

Just know you’re gonna have to put in a lot of time

    Practice remaking your favorite songs

Well i started learning piano and read a basic piano book. Pianos great instrument because its very straightforward and is the basis for all other instruments and notes.

In my opinion, you shouldn't be worrying about music theory yet, it will only delay your creativity because you will have already created standards for yourself that you can't live up to as a beginner, do you have a MacBook by chance? Garageband is insanely underrated for beginners, and so on.

Don't set any type of boundaries for yourself, if you sit at your computer and you start to make a guitar song, then go with the flow. Unadulterated creation is exactly what you can provide now, so don't worry about being a proper musician until you can, and you will reach that level by making a lot of s***.

okay cool i’ll hold off on the music theory and just go in to create. piano is an instrument i want to learn though, should i just cop a small keyboard?

Me personally, I would recommend a MacBook, they're great for creators.

You can definitely cop a keyboard on craigslist or eBay for the low, that would be a great start.
