so there’s this concept in tech called “updates” where things improve step by step rather than just a slow increase

it doesn’t gradually change from one thing to another, it’s just one way initially & improved immediately after the update

you’re asking the equivalent of “how could my phone background be one photo today and a different photo tomorrow? isn’t that too quick to change?” because the answer is no, it isn’t. when updates happen, they happen. could be on a tuesday or a wednesday, and it could be a huge update. could even switch models or use a different program. there’s plenty of reasons why it can sound one way today and another way tomorrow. might even just be one output came out better than the other randomly. it makes no difference. doesn’t change the fact that “in the span of mere days” as a counter is an uninformed way to think about things.

Lawson is a writer who does reference tracks for artists.

In late 2023, he was working with Carti and provided him reference tracks for a few songs, namely Timeless and RATHER LIE, where Lawson was singing over them with AI voice filters over his actual vocals.

The one for Timeless leaked after the song came out, but it was a version with Carti's actual vocal take, followed by Lawson doing an AI vocal reference for The Weeknd.

People heard the AI Weeknd and assumed that the Carti verse beforehand was also the AI Lawson vocals, and ever since then they've ran with the idea that Carti on the officially released version of Timeless is just AI Lawson.

There's no actual confirmation of that being the case, just people who saw some YouTube videos and started believing it

Lawson used an AI voice filter to swap his voice for Carti’s (and The Weeknd’s) on some demos in 2023, this is undisputed.

3 of those demos leaked: Timeless, Rather Lie, and some other song i forget. all 3 were confirmed Lawson using AI to sound like Carti. he also AI’d himself as The Weeknd on those demos, but The Weeknd re-recorded with his actual vocals for the album versions (so on The Weeknd’s side, it’s no different from re-recording his own vocals over a demo someone gave him, no AI use on his end).

the take Lawson did for Carti on Timeless was kept for the album version instead of Carti re-recording it. iirc, Carti recorded ad libs & some new lines on Rather Lie but kept most of the Lawson vocals for the album too.

@shaleirose is just in denial about Timeless specifically being Lawson’s vocals still because he likes the song but is conflicted about that meaning he likes AI. he thinks it must be Carti’s actual vocals because the AI model was improved between Rather Lie & Timeless.

Nobody's in denial, there are songs on BULLY that I like that clearly have some AI still on them. There are some songs on The Death of Slim Shady that I like that used an AI voice model to de-age Eminem's vocals.
