Even if the new music is good, it’s never like the old s***. Never even sounds like the old stuff but renewed. Artists need to stop saying this dumb ass s*** 😂.

I'm not sure how the marketing for American Gangster went but I'm almost positively certain that Jay was trying to capture the essence of RD with that album, almost like a sequel.

I thought Cudi’s PPDS album was a good return to form only example I can think of. Dude was getting s*** on hard after SB2H, then said:

“People think that I’ve peaked,” he said. “I haven’t even gotten a f***ing nut off yet. I’ve been pre-cumming for the last eight years. I haven’t even ejaculated a full spew yet. So motherfuckers better get prepared.

    True.

I would also say that Nas on "Stillmatic" tried to loosely capture the essence of "Illmatic" as well. I think he successfully succeeded in doing so.

idk but they shouldn't. artists should make art that reflects where they are in life right now

Ok the title makes this pretty obvious but what do we think about OB4CL2 as an example of this

Rae sounds like he's pilled out on a lot of songs tbf but Ghostface definitely taps into his OBFCL alcoholic schizo emotional rap bag on a lot of those songs imo

I feel like sometimes you get reminded of something or go down memory lane and the inspiration just clicks

Artists should stop saying this because it’s a battle they can’t win

You’re fighting nostalgia and the moments and memories that people have attached to your old music

You cannot make music that will defeat that. It’s impossible
