BP makes lazy music and relies almost entirely on brand recognition and hype to garner attention. If that group wasn't a YG girl group it would've disbanded 4 years ago.

Comparing BP to BTS who literally put their all into their craft and put their company on the map singlehandedly is crazy but I know you're just comparing sales and popularity.

To answer your question tho Aespa is probably next up for western fans in terms of girl groups. For boy groups, Seventeen and NCT have always been powerhouses but the growth that Stray Kidz has seen in the past year is insane.

Aespa has the sound and look that attracts the west and they have Korean, Japanese, English, and Chinese language covered. They'll only get bigger.

Stray Kidz has organic growth and has English speaking covered no problem.

BTS to me are what DBSK was in the past with the right tools. They litteraly called themselves Gods of the east and were hailed like that. I would even argue DBSK would have been way bigger if they came out in this era. I always thought Big Bang would be it (my favorite Group) but their agency YG is trash and are pretty much disbanded already.
Now who could take BTS crown ? I dont think no one because their run is incredibly unique. They started in the second wave and worked their ass off to become the leaders. I don't see any group recreating it, as mentioned before the last group that was as big as them comparably was DBSK and thats close to 20 years ago and no one has touched that since BTS. Their military service will create a vacuum where different groups will fill in but no one will take that crown again imo.

Now, the current era of Girl groups has something special though. Its seems we circle back to the late 90s and early 2000s in the sound. Exactly my stuff. New Jeans imo the front runner in that. They remind me so much of the Jpop/RnB era with Hikaru Utada, Crystal Kay, Namie Amuro etc just as a group. They also seem to be fans of the Korean RnB scene and incorporate that sound and make it mainstream. I am really excited for that. In general the Girl Group space is thriving and it seems actually nobody has to be the leader. Actuality even BP never had the crown. Groups like Twice, Red Velvet, Mamamoo and even Loona were always great. A lot of old Groups are still out here and even got a resurgence of popularity.
