Heaven to a tortured mind out NOW!!!
this shoulda got the 10 from p4k imo
i was thinking something similar recently
like i love the new indie rock artists but for the most part their not doing anything too special, and yet most of it is propped up as ART
but if you look Rod Waves latest album (and i am in no way saying he is the peak of rap or anything) it's a pretty similar structure to a lot of these indie rock/alt albums
and yet its just disregarded as another rap album
i think this has more to do with us (hip-hop fans) than them
just curious who are all these newer indie rock artists/bands who you see propped up as true art?
real art has no colour. Real art is only made from hardship/life.
ONLY HARD SHIP WHITES HAD WAS THE AMISTAD

i disagree. firstly what is “real art” and Jazz and blues were distinctly made out of black pain but then we were ran out of those genres
nothing but facts. Eminem is another good example. So many white people be like "he's the only rapper i listen to", acting like he's some poet even tho he says the most disgusting things
he be saying the most wild s*** ever and they just ignore it

i was being hyperbolic stop calling me out

And who hopped off the amistad and made I’m a god ? There’s your answer

nah they think its funny to be edgy as hell. look at death metal
whenever i imagine the music landscape rn, i genuinely feel like black artists are more successful. maybe it's because i'm really enveloped in hip hop tho
i was being hyperbolic stop calling me out
lol im not calling you out i was just wondering. not asking for bad ones or anything, cuz i just havent really been following those styles too much in the past few years.
like big thief and s*** like that?

Real art is a feeling you feel me ?
Explains why mbdtf gets so much praise
Imagine if Kanye bleached his skin post 808s would it be received the same ?
All I know is that when I looked her up I found out she has an album that is actually titled
"When the Pawn Hits the Conflicts He Thinks like a King What He Knows Throws the Blows When He Goes to the Fight and He'll Win the Whole Thing 'fore He Enters the Ring There's No Body to Batter When Your Mind Is Your Might so When You Go Solo, You Hold Your Own Hand and Remember That Depth Is the Greatest of Heights and If You Know Where You Stand, Then You Know Where to Land and If You Fall It Won't Matter, Cuz You'll Know That You're Right"
And I knew right then and there to not give a f*** about her or her music.
"True artistry" = traditionally white artistic value
And it reeks in all artforms. Now I love Fiona too, and I don't even wanna use her as the timely scapegoat of this phenomenon, but it's funny to see through some people propping it up so vapidly in the name of eurocentric standards in art
We fall for it Oscar season especially too, not just white fans but all fans; "this movie is Oscar worthy" a lot of the time is due to fulfilling those standards not because of its quality and entertainment value (which is why Parasite's accolades was so refreshing)
The point is there is no such thing as style vs substance - the traditional white style is always seen as superior in art, and we've all been conditioned to agree
- BRAVEOP, what’s this “we” business?
