So why did a white guy make a documentary about it?

Are you talking about trap lore Ross? From what I’ve seen from his videos he doesn’t glamorize it. He seems to cover these topics with more respect than someone like DJ Ak

White people love hood fantasies just as much as black people

Then why did you make a thread targeting white people?? I’m confused lmao

Was watching Videodrome and the whole movie basically predicts this. Instead of a passive viewer they put the protagonist into the experience. The cassette goes in him and he becomes the gunman.

I was debating school shooters with a buddy who claimed that studies have shown is no correlation between violent video games and violent behavior I believed him but then went home and google told me that the Columbine boys etc of course

This is the nadir of violence in human history, but there's more humans than ever and it's a result available source of news/entertainment. Not sure how it translates. Video gaming absolutely has tons of negative after effects tho

Why just him over a laundry list of other rappers?

People do it with other rappers too but King Von has the most visible and detailed criminal history outta any popular rapper I know of recently so thats why he specifically gets pointed out

  • Jun 18, 2024

I legit think in the King Von situation he has a pretty diverse audience who is interested

Sorry Columbine boys were Doom modders*

Yeah it's definitely undeniably had an effect. I know at least a couple little Modern Warfare stans that signed up for actual military service when they had the resources and support to go to college or uni.

I think entertainment is mostly a sedative. Material conditions are the substance and policy influences those. The House is trying to make the draft a thing again while the admin drums up wars in multiple theaters.

Why just him over a laundry list of other rappers?

People specifically seem to be hyper obsessed with Chicago drill music even with its dying popularity overall, there’s ton of suburban/rural/overseas(Europe/African) kids that take it beyond the music, following random hood dudes that never made a song on IG, doing “detective work” on murders, just look at the sub Reddit “Chiraqology” for 5-10 minutes and you’ll get the gist of what I mean.

This why I'm trying to spread awareness with my dusty movie/music threads cause artists used to have a lot more balls and be a lot more straightforward in their messaging.

You seen this one? Had me in shambles last weekend

Nope but these people lived through WWI then WWII! I don't think it can be stated enough that Red Scares gutted entertainment of its radical elements in America and we've really never recovered from that

If u talk about deceased rappers, I always found Mac Miller being like over glamorized

    He was talented for sure

But they only seem to mourn him in large groups
And sorta romanticize his d*** abuse

When there's so many rappers out there who had the same terrible faith
But then the narrative changes cause they black

Nahhh a lot of Mac’s love following his death comes from his talent, his ability to build community with fans and peers, and his depression but hopefulness of what’s to come from life if you just keep going, plus Ariana “they were so good together” and “I miss him (his personality) so much” posts

People too in their feelings are responding more so defending white people from this criticism than trying to get what he meant in the first place. If the shoe doesn’t fit then no need to go on a tangent about why black people are using white people as scapegoats for “our problems” that’s not even what we’re talking about here, the point is people who get a little too hyper obsessed about random street dudes and conflicts that they have no part of, and it’s not just white people, it’s people all over the world doing this.

there's definitely people who overglamorize mac but i don't think that's the majority. i mean he really was a good ass dude who died for sad ass reasons, and he really did make good ass music that connected with people. most of that mourning is genuine.

tbh i haven't really seen a big narrative change for other ppl who OD tho. only ever seen love for fredo, yams, juice wrld, etc.

Yeah true but the Reds partly did it to themselves with their own brutality. I'm reading 1939 rn and even that book, recommend by KTT communists, admits the great purges put an absolute chill on any collaboration against the Nazis that might have happened between England, France and the USSR before the Nazis started taking them down one by one.

The red scares were American tribunals brother. They red smeared any enemies of capital and imperialism and racism as well. Paul Robeson down to random screenwriters. It was an counter revolution in public life.

Oppenheimer is a hilarious retcon like "oh no, they got a war criminal too!"
