What kills me is every producer knows what he's about to sample before he even makes the beat

So why do artists always wait till the last minute to clear samples when they know what is gonna be sampled months in advance

Maybe because not every beat that a producer makes is used by the artist and not every song that’s made ends up on the final version of the album?

You know the samples but until the album is turned in you don’t even know if the song you made with samples is even getting picked for the tracklist, the label has to clear the samples and many cost exorbitant amounts of money so you can’t clear samples for like 30-40 or more songs in the mix for a project tracklist you gotta wait until the final tracklist is turned in and then start the process

You can give a heads up and get verbal approval prior to forking over the cash when it’s finalized

No I know but you can reach out to the individuals you sampled way in advance to get an agreement all sorted out in regards to what price they’re looking for and if it makes the final cut that’s when you wire the money over
