I think ATL really did become cosplay but carti is so attached to ATL as a student of the game that even his pastiche moments (chainsaw in the club, urus and g wagon outside a restaurant, gated forest mansion with Meechie who made a ton of popular ATL dances) feel authentic because it really is a guy from Atlanta doing Atlanta s***
And it feels so much better because
a) it’s been like 5 years since carti was on ATL s*** and we miss it
b) hes a generally hot commodity because of scarcity
c) him coming back in such an insulated ad self focused matter while everyone else is kind of detached from “ATL” as a foundation
d) he f***ing loves AtlantaAll comes together

although the police arrest footage came out with other rappers stuff i damn near believe the team set it up to drop alongside this release to ham up the authenticity
as organic as the last big nyc artists have been (ice spoce pop cardi b) i think they became commercialized insanely fast. now the nyc market has regular drill niggas chasing the commercial image and relesses while the most authentic artists are locked up or blackballed by nypd (we saw this targeting during last nyc rolling loud)
anyway saying this to say, with the rise of veeze and carti stepping into his prime i think authentic regional rap come ups are making a comeback and im happy to see artists be aesthetically and musically true to their roots. the internet has been homogenizing too much s***, and hip hop's diversity is dependent on artists wearing their local influences on their sleaves
