I know exactly what you meant by "post trap drag". Ive noticed this cycle of sincerity and irony and coolness before.

In Carti's most recent fit pic he's wearing a Dipset era blue leather jacket and pants, a hat with his logo which is Thug's logo with a letter switched, and nail polish. It was gradual so we are used to it now, but this is ridiculous. It is apparently anachronistic and goofy.

Hear me out. A hot girl wearing an "I ❤️ HOT DADS" shirt. Again, we're used to this now, so it doesnt immedietely register as such, but we have this idea that she is "wearing it ironically". We all know the the stylistic origins of the "I ❤️ HOT DADS" shirt, even if subconscious, or we bite our tongue so as to be politically correct. But we know. In its oiriginal form it was at the very least associated with uncool, tourist trappy trash that attractive, cool people generally didnt wear. So when an attractive, cool, in-touch youngster wears this shirt, the contrast is apparent. In willingly invoking this explicitly uncool, now dated imagery, what you're doing now is actually demonstrating your understanding of and appreciation for the culture at hand's history. You're signalling that you know that this iconography or these aesthetics are in some way wrong. I want to be clear that this does not mean bad and its not a moral judgement. But rappers, cool rappers that are in touch at least, don't wear huge dipset jackets anymore. The subtext of Carti doing so is basically him saying "i am aware that this is obviously different, but i am confident enough in my own taste that i trust that people will understand that i am in fact NOT behind on fashion, as my jacket would have you believe, but actually ahead of it, in the future.

I observed that Kanye had this ability to just snap his fingers and make s*** cool. The chunky, dad shoe ass Yeezy wave runners. Chunky sneakers. We used to grill fathers for wearing them because it makes them look very apparantly out of touch and old and uncool. Then Kanye West, who is known for being cool and in touch and fashionable, starts wearing chunky sneakers. Everybody knows though, that Kanye West would never accidentally wear something as dorky as chunky dad shoes. Its not possible. So he must be doing it deliberately. So he must know something that we don't. Chunky shoes are actually cool. Next thing you know every single person has them and every brand is doing them and we forget that their resurgence was ironic. Ik ironic chunky shoes had been coming for a minute before Kanye but he set it off yk what im saying.

I think this is how fashion works, at least after the modern era
