Since his music found his way to Spotify he’s steadily grown on me. He’s an undisputed Top 10 imo.
As far as best of all time I will say he finds pockets and rhyme schemes I still have trouble keeping up with, definitely can make an argument for him
But on some real s***, Jay is the epitome of a Jack of all trades master of none rapper.
He's got the flow, lyrics, longevity, hits, influence, classic albums, etc. to be a GOAT and is very balanced but isn't really elite in any of those categories except for flow and maybe hits.
I actually wanna get into this lol
Think about what the most important criteria is:
And look at the most widely accepted top 3 in each category. Jay's name is the ONLY name shows up in every category (Biggie would be #1 if longevity wasn't important)
real.
6 statistical categories: Best flow, most consistent, realest stories, most charisma, he sets the most trends, and his interviews are hotter

Real ones know
Jay is really one of the guys whose gonna come up in the convo of every element of rap and that consistency is crazy
Lyricism, production choice, catalog, flow, influence etc
Jay is dope, Nas is better though. Nas being better than Jay still doesn't take away from the fact that Jay is still one of the greats though.
all jokes aside, when i was young i thought jay z and dr dre were the same people, like it was his alter ego
turns out he wrote still dre (i was on to something)
and my first intial thought i had of jay z was "this guy is cool"
shout out to jay z
People love saying "Nas is better" as if most of his projects post-Illmatic haven't been a disappointment. Nas has definitely dropped some great music throughout his career, but Jay has been more consistent, especially in the 2000s. I'm not a huge fan of either but I think that's undeniable.
