Kendrick is probably one of the 20-25 most popular rappers of all time. Never understood why people online act like he was some unknown before Not Like Us

Doesn't even make sense regionally. I'm in the UK and Kendrick is like Pac in Europe

Humble, DNA, Swimming, DKMV, Money Trees, Loyalty, all his songs with SZA?

I am saying the metric was faulty to begin with.

What in the f*** does "the average person" even mean?

You talking about a grandma? (she knows who The Beatles and Led Zeppelin are)

A 50 year old mom? (she knows who Prince and Rick James are)

Neither of these demographics go around bumping "I got royalty inside my DNA"

If you are talking internet saavy music listeners, everybody knows Igor and Flower Boy

Didn’t say anything about their quality

What all of them have in common is major commercial success besides literally one of them

To headline the Super Bowl you have to be BIG, it’s not about who makes the best music

Tyler is not an anomaly on that list commercially especially when you consider eras. 4 straight #1 albums give him his respect

Internet savvy music listeners are not the demographic that decides who performs at the Super Bowl.

The Super Bowl is about viewership. How do you bring in the most viewership? By getting artists who are unquestionably popular. If you want evidence for this, just look at the artists they’ve chosen over the past decade. All acts who were immensely popular at one point or another during their careers.

Tyler, while yes he is an extremely talented artist, there has never been a moment in his career where he was household-name levels of popular

All respect to Tyler, great achievement, but I’m sorry: #1 albums in the streaming era do not weigh as heavily as they used to.

Young Thug had three straight #1 albums and he will never in his career be offered the Super Bowl

Sure but the average age demographic for SB when Media Culture pulled it is 50 years old, so a 50 year old Mum would be the target demo (47% women to 53% men)

Spotify and YT aggregates show Tyler's representation in over 45s is not even 2%, Kendrick's is 10 to 15%. Kendrick is more present to the average demographic in this case than Tyler, who has almost no representation here

Kendrick then makes a whole lot more sense no?

Think John Mayer & Dead & Co would have made a lot of sense for San Francisco.

Wayne & YMCMB would have made sense last year in New Orleans.

I think the Super Bowl is one of the biggest moments in American culture and it should be used to celebrate the musical culture/history of wherever it is that year. Dre & Snoop in LA was a great example of doing it right.

Tyler was able to run a whole festival. Also your comment about a niche fan base is what makes it work. The overlap between Tyler’s fan base isn’t huge with the NFL, and the reason for the halftime show is to draw more eyes that normally wouldn’t be watching football.

Good performer, fan base outside of normal football fans, fan base is large enough to run a festival, one of the best performing commercial artists in our era, he can do it.

The Who had 1 top 10 hit y’all are really making this Super Bowl halftime show way bigger than it really is. Hov really fooled y’all’s asses
