For real. It baffles me. Or they have really bad reading skills that means they have to concentrate more idk.
I've watched anime and couldn't remember if I watched it dubbed or subbed because my brain just absorbs those words while I'm watching like they're speaking it

I don't need them while I watch TV but there are a lot of occasions in the cinema where I wish I had them
Always on for games, I put them on for movies/series if the file I downloaded has them.
It can spoil s*** though, I hate when the subtitles appear slightly before the dialogue. I'm thinking of ending things' plot was spoiled for me because the name of a character was revealed when I read the subtitles
I've been watching TV like this since I was a kid and now it's a habit. I always felt like it helped me read and comprehend things better.
It kinda does. I only turn them off if it’s an action movie or something and I want to focus on the characters.

Nobody said that.
It’s a fixed part of the screen you’re constantly turning your gaze and focus to vs the action or sound itself.
Of course that will split up your attention and make you miss things here and there. To varying degrees, of course. For me it’s not worth it.
