The shameful drake vs metro boom thread has inspired this thread.
Travis bagged Kylie Jenner had an incredible album with newcomers who have proven themselves since then and just reached a completely new level as an artist.
Drake released huge singles and went on a feature run unparalleled by any other artist. Hits after hits. One of the biggest rap albums of all time. Controlled the entire summer.
Pusha vs Drake war incoming
Drake and I don't even f*** with Scorpion like that.
2018 was the biggest popularity peak Drake ever had from the numerous number 1 songs on the album, huge features with other artists(including Sicko Mode), prolific beef with Pusha/Ye, and the In My Feelings meme challenge.
Travis was huge for sure and Astroworld seems to have more longevity than Scorpion but Drake was truly the biggest pop star in 2018.
ktt obsessed with drake fr
Drake's 2018 was the most dominant year of a rapper in this era.

Bigger than 2016? Remember controlla too good and one dance bro. Even work work work work work. 2016 was crazy
It was Drake by every actual metric. This is only really a debate because the packaging of ASTROWORLD (title/cover/existence of the album itself) was a bigger deal than that of Scorpion
But it starts and ends there. Scorpion had the bigger sales and bigger (and more) hits, not to mention Drake’s insane feature run
Pusha T
He did have the biggest year of his career. Which I would consider deeply shameful as a man.
Can’t remember that year, only vague pain
It's been downhill for me ever since 2017
obviously drake
he was running first half of 2018 with GP and NFW
yes indeed and look alive features
Travis had a huge year no doubt but it was only in the latter half once AW dropped
Drake continued through the summer with IMF
Scorpion was his highest selling album iirc. Broke records. Was part of the reason Travis had a huge year as well with his feature
I’m probably missing stuff but yeah. Most of those songs went #1 too as well, this was back when rap was still dominating the charts so it actually had some staying power.
Like I love Trav and he was easily #2 behind Drake (unless y'all wanna count Post Malone who would technically be #1), but Drake ran 2018 dude
It wasn't even close. It felt even bigger than 2016. 2018 was Drake's year

Nah. Views was bigger in hype cause of how anticipated it was. You can argue that it's the bigger album too.
But, in terms of dominating the whole year, Drake was bigger in 2018.

Astroworld was better than Scorpion
But Drake still ran 2018, it was a decent album and the hits were undeniable
Drake because he had the entire year on lock from January to December
Travis wasn’t really active until August (and the biggest song on the album he dropped was the one with Drake on it)

There wasn't a moment of pause for Drake in 2018. Every single day of that year he was dominating. I honestly think the Pusha T beef ended up slightly helping him rather than hurting him too, commercially speaking, but he obviously didn't need that beef to be where he was in 2018.
It was just dude's year. It was my last year of college and this man was the soundtrack until covid hit
Even the things that spurred from the beef with Pusha like the son revelation, losing the Adidas deal, the Blackface picture and the hilarious "circus" comment from Drake on IG addressing it contributed to his popularity in 2018.
Drake basically WAS pop culture in 2018. And, like I said, I think Scorpion is his 3rd worst album so it's far from bias on my part.
Trav had the best come-up of 2018 though
Drake was unstoppable by 2018 but Trav went from underdog to 2nd in command in the span of 4 months
Has anybody ever lost a beef worse, dropped a worse album, and did better numbers? Don't think so

Wayne had a strong comeback year in 2018 too.
