just like among us fans
all the rappers worshipped biggie at some point in time
even if only few of them were ever able to get on his lvl
If Biggie wrote for Kim does that mean Biggie inspired Nicki and changed women rap forever
You see where I’m headed
yeah nigga
Watch that attitude though
Biggie also a huge influence on the sound, structure and feel of the rapper guest verse on pop songs. Am I pulling that out of my ass? Perhaps, but it sounds correct
“It’s the American expressor, the debt collecter, hailing all the way from the Mecca, got something for Trudy and rebecca” is biggie u can’t tell me nun

Nah he was the blueprint 100% I can’t remember a guest rap feature before biggie that layed the blueprint people still follow today
As far as genre influence you have to give him credit for being the prototype for rappers after him
It Was Written, Reasonable Doubt, I Am, Vol 1, Vol 2, Vol 3, all extremely influenced by Big trying to do what he did
Big had like 3 niggas coming in the game trying to p sound like him from 3 different cities lmao
Just because rappers might not sound like B.I.G. Or rap like him doesn’t mean they weren’t influenced. Rappers like B.I.G. And Pac have gotten to the point where their legacy influenced many to simply want to rap.
A lot of rappers are influenced by Biggie, a better question is who sounds like Biggie
Just because they don’t sound just like him doesn’t mean he didn’t influence them
I’m super influenced by lots of artist I sound nothing like
facts
XXXTENTACION said that Big was a huge influence on him and claimed that Biggie was better than 2Pac to him bc his music was more poetic
even though when i listen to X he only rly has a few songs that i would say are similar to Big at all, the artist himself paid homage to his influence

Yeah but even then, in addition to Ross we have Jay Elec and Pusha and others who show clear influence in the rapping style too
Yeah he built confidence in fat niggas carrying the torch from Heavy D, & yeah him along with 2Pac are what started the infatuation of luxury higher end clothing brands in Rap.
But that isnt music. Writing for Lil Kim doesnt count & the lab created body snatcher replacements that Puffy cynically made himself after Biggs passing doesnt count either, im talking genuine influence musically
I think Rick Ross is the only one.... Yeah a lot of Rappers have Biggie in their top 5s/10s but all favs =/= direct influence. I havent heard any Rappers by word of mouth nor their style be Biggie-like except Ross
Even if you go by the "big 3":
Jay/Wayne/Kanye = Drake
2Pac/Andre/Nas = Kendrick
2Pac/Nas/Kanye = J. Cole
Even ASAP Rocky is influenced by Three 6, Wu Tang, 2Pac, Mase & Dipset while Joey Badass is influenced by Nas, Tribe, Gangstarr, Roots & MF Doom, which are some of NYs longest running "newer" artists that arent either
DMX, 50 Cent, Ja Rule, CamRon etc. dont seem influenced by Biggie like that either (musically) while 50 n Ja are both influenced by Pac. Wayne by Jay, Game by Jay, Pac n Nas, Kanye by Jay n Pac. Even Fat Joe n Pun werent really either outside of drip.
Im sure theres probably lesser artists influenced, but overall it seems Biggie didnt influence a whole lot musically. Possibly due to only 2 albums & one post.
His career & spotlight were tragically & ridiculously cut short, byt it just still seems weird to me the lack of noticeable musical impact while theres many peers & even more underground artists of his time & after that are way more influential in the sound of Rap.
Big basically popularized Mafioso rap, and the idea of rappers having a "Don" persona. All the stuff about having "shooters" "my niggas will do you dirty" "Mob Ties" etc is rooted in Big's discography if you ask me. it creates distance from crime and the rapper, and lets ppl rap about the streets without necessarily living that life and doing it themselves. arguably invented the idea of being a Studio gangster or at least paved the way for them to be accepted
People can say Pac did the same thing but that wasn't really his brand. he embraced "Thug Life" and wanted to be seen as the one who was willing to let shots off himself. and he only tapped into that lane Because of Big, at one point they were good friends and Big claimed that Pac was biting him at one point in a recorded interview, can't find it rn but hopefully i can later

Pac also said Big came up with his player style after I Get Around
Even if you don’t think people sound exactly like Big he still has a large amount of sampled/repurposed material for an artist with such a short career. A lot of people just end up quoting and reusing the same material.
There’s like a whole handful of rappers that you can’t listen to without hearing a biggie quote every other song, like multiple rappers that a core part of their formula is quoting biggie every other jay Elec lyric, pusha T lyric, Hov lyric, is a big lyric
OP needs a masters in English for that good ass a***ysis
Op found a smart way to ask a dumb question
Pac also said Big came up with his player style after I Get Around
both of those things can be true
Pusha T and Malice, Jay Z, Lil Kim, Nicki Minaj, Meechy Darko, Earl, Schoolboy Q, and many others. His flows and rhyme schemes are easy to hear in others.
That being said...Scarface was a major influence on Biggie. So if you hear Biggie-isms in a rapper, just know he got it from Face.
