Sun Ra and John Coltrane, though…

    Sun ra is avant- garde

Avant-garde jazz, yes, but not merely.

Have you listened to his ’50s tunes?

They’re all hard bop, sometimes even doo-wop-infused.

Easily arguable. No matter what genre your in all artists can learn from him and his philosophy on music. Bro was the definition of a pioneer. Always ahead of the curve and making it sortve accessible for wider audiences, but also can do the most batshit experimentation that still sounds insane today.

Also his swag was insane. One of my favorite artists fr. His autobiography is the funniest book I've ever read

Thank you for reminding me that I haven’t read his autobiography! Gonna hit that ASAP
Agree with the rest - true pioneer and hungriest at perfect his craft
