percee p has been rapping since the 1980s. he only did features and finally released an album in 2007. jay electronica promised to release an album for a long time and finally did in 2020.

percee p is one of the greatest technical lyricists with one of the greatest flows. up there with big daddy kane, kool g rap, and rakim. if he released albums during the 1980s and/or 1990s, he would the greatest rapper of all time.

  • easily jay elec.

If you’re putting Percee P against Jay Electronica, you’re basically comparing two very different kinds of lyrical mastery.

    Percee P

Known as a technician’s technician—his flow is ultra-precise, dense, and relentless
Emphasis on complex rhyme schemes, internal rhymes, and breath control
Classic underground battle rapper energy; earned respect the hard way in NYC circles
Albums like Perseverance show raw skill over polish
Less about mystique, more about pure bars and endurance

    Jay Electronica

More of a poet-philosopher than a traditional bar machine
Focuses on spirituality, history, and abstract ideas
Known for a minimal but impactful catalog (Exhibit C, A Written Testimony)
Charismatic presence, selective output → built a near-mythical reputation
Leans on imagery, message, and aura rather than nonstop technical assault

    Head-to-head breakdown:

Technical skill (rhyme density, flow mechanics): Percee P wins
Conceptual depth / themes: Jay Electronica wins
Consistency of output: Percee P by a mile
Cultural mystique / influence: Jay Electronica
Battle rap / raw MC skill: Percee P

    Bottom line:

If you value pure lyrical gymnastics and underground grind, Percee P takes it.
If you value message, mystique, and thought-provoking writing, Jay Electronica stands out.

    They’re both elite—but they’re playing different games.

jay electronica could never outdo this

Smile on my face, tears of a sad clown
Feeling out of place as I whistle a cab down
If I tip extra, can I huff a cig'?
Blow my smoke out the window, dropping ashes on the bridge
