Thug is not any arena that Wayne was in. He’s never been considered a goat or the best rapper. This don’t make sense

Of course Wayne is an all time legend like Pac or Jay and it's on another level but yeah there's a lot of similarities about Thug. The major influence on hip hop, the mixtapes game, the creative flow, the use of the voice, the respect the hip hop has for him. Thug, along with Future and Migos IMO changed trap music forever, and when we put that on the balance, he's not that far from Wayne like you painting

I guess the better question is.

Does Drake even want a successor ?

    No

I understand why people ask these questions but if you really think about it then it doesn’t make much sense to ponder this

When Drake came on the scene it was a different era. A rapper that also sings (especially about emotional stuff) wasn’t as common or accepted as it is nowadays. He really was one of the main people that made that s*** cool. Also he came up in an era before streaming

We will never be able to compare a newer gen artist to Drake because of the different circumstances, and I doubt we’ll see a rapper dominate commercially for that long again any time soon either

Elaborate some more, how can we get the discussion going if I’m not sure what you trying to say bruh

You saying he didn’t make it cool to do that? Or you saying there were many people before him that already did that? Talk to me

Many people have done it before him, and it was popular before him. He was just good at it. He didn't pioneer it or make it cool.

I wasn’t trying to say he was the first to ever mix singing and rapping. But nobody did it in the way Drake has done at that point. The reach and influence he has had on the game is undeniable, a shaky back catalogue doesn’t take anything away from that

Who would you argue before Drake in hiphop had the same style and influence on the scale of him?

Lots of artists in the 80s and 90s. If you want to limit it to people in the 2000s then you're just dropping out people based on it not being close enough to current hip hop. You even have T-Pain by then. If you're just going to say that nobody had that one specific style and "influence" then you're just attributing the whole origin to him as he was the most successful to come from it.

You literally hyper focusing on a small part of what I said and the way you interpret it isn’t even what I’m trying to say

Just bc people were mixing rapping and singing before doesn’t mean it’s the same thing. We all know what “Drake” embodies in style, aesthetic whatever tf you wanna call it yk, to say he didn’t add his own original spin on that hybrid type of rapper lane is discrediting him in a way that isn’t fair imo for what his impact has been the past 15 years

And I’m not even a Drake stan but like what’s even to argue with that fam

Wayne is a better rapper but he also has a LOT of mid s***, we can't act like he is that unanimous among rap fans. He used to be hated a lot when we entered the 10s

    Mr America

Logically its almost impossible. Drake was able to capture alot of diff lanes because it wasnt that many. If a new drake was to come about hed have to capture the lanes drake took but also capture the new lanes that the internet and new gens open up. And since Gen Z / alpha dont like being that social it’s impossible, drake captured the blogs at the time but also the clubs cuz millennials still clubbed. Now it would be like if someone managed to capture the clubs while being a weirdo like opium or sum, but also appealing to the newer white rap fans which usually looks for the opposite of mainstream music

    So Carti pretty much?
