I swear y’all getting authentic gangsta rap confused with trap s***.

Cause ain’t now way as dope as Mozzy is anyone considering him Trap.

The real issue at the root of this is beat selection lol

Everything is mostly either trap beats, beats with trap esque drums or traditional boom bap type s***. Khaled beats on his albums in the 2000’s for example wasnt strictly in either category

This died after the 2000s / early 2010’s at the latest lol

Trap production has permeated all of rap music and yes June is often on trap beats

That don’t make him a trap rapper

I guess you have this idea of trap still being Oj Flocka Jeezy Wop but Larry June aint No Conscious rapper lmao

I semi get what you saying but eh niggas gotta do more to escape that category for me. Its still money flexing and more vague d*** dealer/violence references The difference you pointing out between that and pooh shiesty or some s*** is what makes it grown man trap lol

How we in the year 2024 and still got dudes saying “hey uh that actually isn’t trap 🤓”

No. My idea of trap is money man, yak, youngboy, glock. Idk why you naming rappers from the 2000s

June is a lifestyle rapper, straight from the school of Spitta

The real issue is, yall use “trap” out of context when it comes to Hip Hop. Larry June shouldn’t even be a part of that convo.

Trap music isn’t an aesthetic. People were/are cooking up or counting up to it.

I mean the sonics , I ask about grown man rap and I get a bunch of Griselda and Action Bronson recommendations

yall dont wanna have the “thats not trap” argument but its bc niggas categorizing whole lotta red as trap

  • Jun 14, 2024

The hip-hop sound of the past 10-15 years borrows largely from this forgone era, without a doubt. However, people hear the punchy 808s, the rattling hi-hats, and are quick to call something “trap” and that’s just wild when those are just trap elements. There are r&b and pop records with prominently featured 808s and yall aren’t about to sit here and say SZA and Ariana Grande make trap too.

I begged my mother to get me TM101 and Urban Legend/King in real time as an elementary schooler and WLR is trap. At least heavily trap influenced. But probably just trap

He rapping about dope and murder on rolling hi hat and 808 beats that wouldnt exist without 808 mafia’s influence. What are we talking about
