I’m having some late night new year spins of some albums i loved from a decade back and i came across an old gem

Being from NC myself s/o the 919, FHD came out when i was 14 years old and a freshmen in high school, that album hit like crack for all of us cause he made that album with the concept of going back to his roots and reminiscing about his adolescence

It brings me back to who and how i felt when i was 14 like i’m about to understand everything about life and blah blah blah but at the time it was like the perfect coming of age album

But now it makes me cringe so hard knowing what i felt at the time and it’s kinda funny but cringe inducing at the same time because cole made an album with a “teenage” mindset? And the album has fun moments but most of it is him being serious and i get such a weird feeling being put back into my 14 year old mind even though ik it’s a great cole project

i know rappers reminisce all the time and have personal albums about the past (NWTS for example) but drake makes albums that you relate to more as you get older. There’s plenty of music from that era that i can listen to and NOT feel this way because the intent of the artist makes it age well enough. Even Born sinner ages better than people give it credit for( its cole’s best work still imo)

that’s just late night thoughts i definitely intend to bring this up to my friends and cole fans ik personally soon aswell to see if they feel the same
