Stumbled across the Right My Wrongs vid that was released on the 5th Anniversary of Trapsoul!
That video sitting at 51M views.
Are artists not interested in promoting the back catalog because they dont own the music? Why is this not done more?
could see this happening for older songs that found a second life on tiktok.
but also it requires you to have not shot a video in the first place i guess, so most likely itll only be possible for songs that weren’t intended as singles and just took off kinda unexpectedly. seems like a pretty small pool of songs but could def see tiktok changing that a little
but yea what you said about not owning the music is also facts. they see no upside in promoting, only the label does tbh. but if that song could help the artist recoup then maybe they’d be game
Budgets are allocated for current projects. In Tiller's case they were promoting an anniversary and he's not a super active artist, so it makes sense. I haven't seen the video so idk if it was brand new, or just old footage that was scrapped.
I think where artists are mostly looking to promote their back catalog is on tour. Anything else that costs money is probably focused and best used on their current work.
it would be smart. boosting streams any way possible is good. charli xcx did it with unlock it in 2020. die for you. etc.
it should be done more tho. Bloody Mary mv soon?
YouTube is dead for western artists, it’s not like a music video spurs interest in a new song, let alone a 5 year old album track.

this is also facts lol. going back and adding a video does pretty much nothing. only value a video adds for most artists at this point (MOST not all) is clipping said video down into short form video content
I noticed older artists doing visualizers for their hits more often. I think its is often tied to new music/reissues coming out, but seems like okay middle ground. like somebody mentioned here it just doesn't make sense to allocate any large budget for it
They'll get more value uploading the same song to streaming but at 1.5x speed

Almost like that works and costs them nothing

Valid Point!
It might happen more in the future due to tik tok but there wasnt a point before honestly, woulda been more of a passion project im guessing
