It all takes place in an experimental prison with all the usual racial factions, led by skinhead leader played by JK Simmons and narrated by Link from Matrix Reloaded. Bodie from The Wire is in there too among others, s***s goated There's all the usual prison wars and politics but it's also very introspective and philosophical there's really no other show like it

my sis watching cold case and its interesting because it has a lot of things going for it
nostalgia. one episode had like 5 nirvana songs placed in the 90s w like a malcom in the middle piss filter. and when it comes to the murder itself, its a little torture p***y
any of these shows has the same likeable team bantering w each other, unspoken office love affairs, grief, dealing w peoples traumas, catching the baddie

It's definitely inferior to the other titans but like wt said, it paved the way for many shows and was one of the first hbo shows to have the episodes length being of one hour iirc.
gets significally more bizzarre (many times in a negative way) season after season and writers jumped the shark more than once but I don't regret watching it: it was mad entertaining.
