I understand why the super rich would
But why do everyday people WANT to pay for college
Why do people WANT to pay for Health Care
Why do people WANT to pay to have a roof over their head
Why do people WANT to pay for clean water and food
What am I missing here, what do you gain from going against your own self-interest
most everyday people don't want to pay for these things, they just think they have to, and that the world has to always work this way
in america, people tend to not think outside of capitalism, they can't conceive anything other than it
No one wants to pay for anything. But food, water(to an extent), housing(not basic housing) should all be things we have to pay for.

you're thinking about it wrong. people largely view things not within a vacuum (even if they think they are) but rather within a web of interconnecting interactions; the reason people (really in the US specifically) think things should have a price tag is largely a***ogous to the fabled independent strong man, the type who "rejects handouts out of personal pride" and "pulls himself up by the bootstraps by hardwork and independence alone", who is conceptually pathologized in myth in the american mind. People want things to have a price tag because people want things to confer meaning attached to what the price represents; it's the same reason you see american s***ting on eastern european housing projects whereas you go to LA and there's meth addicted homeless camps every block and that's somehow fine by comparison. If anyone can get a $100 filet mignon, then no one wants that filet mignon anymore, because sure it tastes great, but the status it confers is no longer extrapolate - you can see a microcosm of this phenomena all over american culture; the idea of "hidden gems" or "subversive cultures" all stem from this. Americans claim to believe in meritocracy but by and large they actual believe in aristocracy. This affects even though who often claim to want to abolish the system domestically which causes inequality, hence why you end up with large swathes of politically minded individuals who simply want to encroach on and socialize aristocracy rather than abolish it.

So basically it’s pride and ego
So basically it’s pride and ego
I don't know if i'd individualize it as much to say everyone is just overly prideful, but i think on a more collective level we live in a very prideful and egotistical society and things like shaming are incorrectly displaced. You're more likely to be shamed and made fun of for taking food stamps as a single mother than you are for being a multi-millionaire exploiting tax loopholes.
So basically it’s pride and ego
Resources are scarce having to pay for things helps to reduce waste.

they got the jeffersonian yeoman dealing with $4/gallon gas and... "shrinkflation," yet still abstractly more worried about SOCIALISM
"clown world," as the kids say
Because people should be compensated for the work they do
This mf thinks when you use the road for free those roads were built with slave labor
One of the reasons is bc like u can see in that post i quoted above, most ppl have a toddler level understanding of the economy
Because people should be compensated for the work they do
Much agreed comrade. Pay the workers and expropriate the capitalist owners skimming on top.

You gotta understand you are working against ~200 years of propaganda

Seems like your understanding of the economy is fetus level then.

Man discovers the concept of government spending

so you cool with taxes increasing so that s*** could be "free" right?
I think a lot of people who think taxes will raise are completely unaware of how much is spent on war
Capitalism isn’t going anywhere
Instead of fantasizing about what could be, spend that energy figuring out how you can play the game to the best of your ability to live whatever life you want for yourself.
But that’s harder than complaining so go off yall
