production on EA is the worst aspect overall and the worst he’s had on any project yet now I see people act like it was some step forward
Not saying you are wrong, but I literally do not get this take
EA was engineered and crafted so meticulously, the production is massive and varies a lot across its 18-tracks
Homecoming & I’m Sorry are the only two tracks where the production is lacking, but like c’mon now:

Arguably a 10/10 Uzi track
I could basically post the entire album but I think that song exemplifies its strong production the best
This song was the right direction for Uzi aint ngl s*** a vibe
@whoababy26 @RIP_Actavis
Absolutely, this & Red Moon I really fw with since they are such different vibes
I think Uzi should frequently just drop loosie singles like this every 3/4 months, in the same way that they used to drop SoundCloud exclusives

I’m a celebration station truther, chrome hearts tags etc but I don’t consider the whole of that album a great effort production wise, the sequencing similar sounding songs together is disservice to me as well this same group of producers delivered way more dynamic production on Pink Tape

Pink Tape certainly has high peaks of dynamic production - x2, Rehab, Fire Alarm, Suicide Doors
However it also has absolutely abysmal staleness - Aye, I Gotta, Pluto to Mars - all boring asf
Eternal Atake is incredibly consistent, and I enjoy its cohesiveness a lot, even if it does play it a little too safe
Uzi can still do it you can see it in his unreleased s***.
The main problem is track selection, don't know if it's him or the label choosing the album tracks but s*** it's ass and its prolly him.
He only dropped Xo tour life and Lir 1.5 just because he lost his phone in the crowd with the songs so Uzi f***ed in the head
sometimes tbh.
Man need to scrap Fruity Brandon Finnesin and hop on other prod beats.
Bugz Ronin his best producer right now, second being Forza if he wants to work with him more.
goat songs prod by bugs :

Bro done invented hyperpop in 2019 with futsal shuffle but aint no1 gives him credit
Been blasting Poppin Now for weeks now, that s*** really is PEAK 2018 Uzi man
Nah I used to be against listening to leaks but if you got it
idk why he keeps doubting himself

the leaks are actually why it got scrapped
but since these gems never coming out go ahead bro
Their rapping songs were never what was popular but obviously for more than surface level fans that’s one of their strongest appeals.
They are a great unifier of catchy melodies / flows, decent technical rapping skill (not going to say they are a lyricist by any stretch but they do weave metaphors / double entrees in effortlessly when their spitting), and has always had a good ear for beats and “peak moments” in songs (where everything congeals).
One reason why I love LIR so much is cause all of their styles were on display and not every song features all of them each gets there chance to shine and some of the songs get decent mix of all.
Idk I’ve always really enjoyed Uzi when their just rapping but those songs have never been the focus in the mainstreams eye.
They do switch it up a decent amount and maybe they will have another “rapping” arc but they seem to just go with the vibe that their feeling and make songs in that vein. I don’t think we’ll ever see an album all in one direction but I think that makes sense cause it doesn’t play to all of their strengths as an artist
Btw if you want more “rapping Uzi” you can just scrub their features from 18-21 and they are spitting on a lot of them they were getting used a lot less in that era on the hooks exclusively
Thank you everyone participating in both sides of the conversation and taking time to a***yze, like forreal. I love it when people know what they like and can support their stance with details and examples
yeah its a classic sound. definitely a preset from some old keyboard but i’d like to know which
Fairlight CMI was the first sampler keyboard with orchestral hits
Long ass post but idrc because we never get Uzi threads anymore
Ultimately there are a myriad of factors that have/are restricting Uzi, many of which ppl have already mentioned itt - Uzi’s inability to grow up, their tendency to be persuaded by whiny fans, their own mental & substance abuse issues and premature leaks
But to me, the biggest issue is their song-selection. And this isn’t something that is recent, Uzi has struggled with song-selection since way back: XO was considered a throwaway, leaving Shoota with Carti off LIR2, leaving off Loaded & 20 mins until th LIR2 deluxe, putting Skirr Skirr on LIR2 deluxe despite having a thousand other better choices in the vault, never dropping the 2018 WOD material etc etc.
This same issue plagues Pink Tape, whereby the tracklist feels like it was cobbled together with no thought at the last minute
As you mention @op Pink Tape de-emphasises Uzi’s straight up rapping for more ‘experimental’ stuff … and I use experimental lightly. As @edumist said a few pages back, at Uzi’s core they are a GREAT rapper with a simultaneous gift for melody & hooks - Uzi can rap absolute circles around Carti & Travis.
The MAJORITY of people fell in love with Uzi with VTW, a project with less of a focus on straight up rapping and more melody/hooks. So when EA came out, and it prioritised rapping over melodies (even though there are amazing melodies on it, CHT, Venetia, Bust Me) , people hated on it … Uzi is doomed if he doesn’t and doomed if he doesn’t
If Uzi is to make another classic project, they need to strike an equilibrium between that technical rapping and also their gift for crafting earworm-y hooks & melodies. While it’s not impossible, it’s a journey problematised by their weak, bizarre song-selection and their own insecurities
@AmoryBlain is bang on about them consistently struggling as an album-artist, like Weezy, a lot of Verts best stuff are loosies
Shoutout LIR2 though, that’s a personal classic, and also EA, which is an excellent event rap-album
By the way OP, check out the leak below, think you’ll fw it:
(Beat the Odds was made in 2023 Pink Tape sessions, WHY TF WASN’T IT ON THE ALBUM)
I thought Uzi's focus on rapping on EA was dope
First song I ever heard from him and made me a fan instantly
I don't have the time to keep up with leaks, much less find a way to put them on my phone, but man, is some of Uzi's best music leaked stuff.
Uzi's fear of growing old/up and peaking mixed with being conflicted on whether to please fans or experimenting with music is the biggest problem - basically just insecurity, imo.
Uzi had so much love for The Pink Tape and then backtracked so immediately when the reception was polarizing, coping by calling it "experimental" (which it was, but that shouldn't be used to downplay it)
Eternal Atake was Uzi’s peak
no it was LIR 1.5
only 4 songs but each one is easily within uzi top 10, if not top 5. not to mention his biggest hit (xo tour life) came off that tape.

It was, their rapping on the project is excellent, I guess some people just aren’t down for that and wanted more VTW type melodic songs

This is what saddens me, so much of their best material is leaks, which the vast majority of people beyond stans will therefore miss
As you’ve just said, you don’t have the time to follow leaks and organise them in your library, the average listener unfortunately doesn’t either
Since 2022 listening to Uzi leaks is pretty much what I’m listening to 90% of the time, I just wish their magic was able to be appreciated by the masses
