I’ll never understand. I remember back in 2010/11 he and Kendrick were on the same level and I thought they’d both make it big.

What happened? He’s got the lyrics and substance for the hardcore fans, he’s got the club bangers for the radio, he can sing, he was collaborating with big names like Future and 2 Chainz and ASAP Rocky. He’s been dropping consistently great projects with catchy singles and deep introspective cuts. I don’t get what he’s missing

He had some label issues, and his music is probably less accessible then the big 3 (not by a big amount)

Honestly I don’t even know, many people have had their theories such as his southern accent being too strong but I just feel like that’s a myth because Atlanta is the most popping scene in hip hop and they all got strong accents

The accent maybe? He got plenty of songs that could be on radio

  • May 22, 2020

previous label was awful, and his music might be considered "too southern" for a mainstream audience.

    still one of the GOATs

T.I., Pimp C and Andre 3000 have thick southern accents too

I just think he's not marketable enough outside of a classic hip-hop fan-base.

He's incredibly talented, one of my favorite artists hands down.. but look at what blows up nowadays.. he's not Gunna, Lil Baby etc

He also made music against the same old club s*** and even mocked it.

His labels never knew how to push. He could do it if he wanted to. Smh he should be appreciated way more. Glad he finally independent. KRIT is Here one of the best albums last year

  • May 22, 2020

    Kenny/Dr Dre
    Drake/Wayne
Cole/Hov (granted Hov didn’t really do much for him but still)
    Sean/Kanye
    Meek and Wale/Rozay
    KRIT/?

He did blow. Just because he isn’t all over the shade room it doesn’t mean he doesn’t have a core fan base.

Krit has classic mixtapes and recognizable mainstream songs. Some artist are OK with being big enough just to maintain their lifestyle. He never struck me as the type who wanted to be all on the scene and the media.

    facts
def has a loyal ass fanbase

He does perfectly fine. His shows are always packed.

I think a lot of KTT has a weird definition of “blowing up”

Doesn’t mean you need to be cranking out Billboard hits and whatnot

I remember before I went to boot camp, I was rooming at the hotel before MEPS with a dude from Meridian saying this dude gonna be big. I kinda wrote it off because ain't no Mississippi dude gonna get famous like he's saying, thought he was just talking because they from the same city but comparatively, KRIT did well for a Mississippi dude for sure.

This was in late 2010/ early 2011.

Also the image I had in my head was some literal fat nigga.

He has a solid fan base and is happy with it

    You right

I’ve seen him live twice. Wasn’t at the shows for him but was still impressed both times. First time he was opening for Wiz during Kush & OJ era. Was my introduction to Krit. Niggas were lowkey booing him. His performance wasn’t even bad though. The music was good too. Guess people were getting impatient. After the show I checked out KRIT Wuz Here and became a fan

Second time I saw him was 2014. At this point I wasn’t listening to him at all. My dad was a fan so he asked me to go to one of his shows. Plus Two9 was opening and he knew I was a big fan. Two9 was decent but man Krit... KILLED it

Had a nice lil stage setup with the Cadillac grill, lights, and fog. All the bells and whistles lol bruh is a GREAT performer. High energy throughout the whole show. His breath control was insane. Crowd went crazy the whole time. Already liked Krit but after that night my respect for him grew even more

Bruh came a long way and stayed true to his sound. Even though I don’t listen to Krit like that anymore I have an appreciation for what he’s doing bc I saw his growth first hand. His fanbase gon hold him down. He can do albums/tours and his fans gonna show out for him. Plus he’s one of the only niggas out rn that’s carrying full projects with his own beats and he’s been doing that for YEARS. Dude is a monster

He has a core fanbase but the most he's ever done first week is 44k, and his last album is 22k. So while he's on the cusp of mainstream, he definitely didn't get as big as people thought he might in 2010/11

  • May 22, 2020

I think his problem was mostly that he had a lot of hype before Live from the Underground, then when that dropped and was only ok he lost his hype as the next big thing and sort of settled down into the level of popularity he has today

Also I think people kept waiting for him to drop a AOTY contender, and he never really managed to produce anything that was a big step up from his previous work

  • May 22, 2020

because big krit doesn't feed into their bullshit agendas to destroy the minds of young people
music industry don't really care about lyrical rappers like that
