You never been to College have you and studied art?

My great, great grandfather, Vincent Van Seinfeld, was a master of painting, so yeah, I think I’m qualified to speak on art.

if you disagree, you can call that mental freeze

Michael Jackson had tons of hits and made popular timeless music.

Frank ocean has very few hits in terms of charts but makes incredible music.

I think it’s really about how artists affect the individual or how individuals are moved by certain songs. It’s like an X factor that can’t be defined.

That's actually a perfect example of what I mean by you guys having no clue, if you don't engage with art or venture to learn more and rely on other people doing it for you like "my ancestor" you are a casual.

I’m currently 3/4 of a way through a music education degree.

Had to take 2 semesters of music history and learn all about the “high art” music you’re going to try and lecture me about.

OP kinda got a point and I feel like people are being obtuse to ignore it

Music is subjective obviously but if you can’t discuss why albums are better than others why does discussion around music even exist

Clearly a song like All Falls Down by Kanye is better than Astronaut in the Ocean. It will be remembered longer, it will be more impactful it’s very evidently better art

Obviously there’s a point where you’re just gonna get into subjective “I like this more” but why are we pretending like there isn’t a lot of music that we can discuss in fairly objective terms

I’m gonna let you in on a secret, I don’t think Vincent Van Seinfeld really existed.

Yeah once you've pulled out a spreadsheet when discussing music, you've lost

It isn't, art is not subjective, it's interpretation can be but the value is not defined by casual opinion
