An iPhone 6 might be a slightly better than a google pixel from that time today, but that isn't saying much. At that point there are apps you can't install or update

Right, goes back to another point made, one has to purchase a flagship android phone to have a total experience. Buying a random LG or Samsung just won't cut it. That problem doesn't necessarily exist w/apple. Every iOS product is flagship, there isn't a lesser product.

Android offers a range. Apple says gimme 1000 or gtfo, and every 5 years or so sells a stripped down poor people iPhone

Is there a reasonably priced android phone where one can receive updates and have a quality experience?

I don't see myself ditching android literally because of the apps, Vanced is godsent and there's tachiyomi for manga reader. I'm on all these social medias heavy and not having issues at all, if you are geek who look deeper there's even alternative/forks that improve on the experience

Last time we heard Apple plan to scan your phone for CP (which is something that i agree they should still implement) and AirTag works by pinging each other iPhones in the world. S*** is built to be the ultimate tracker, make of that what you will. Mfs see apple ad say privacy privacy on repeat while scrolling tiktok for the one month and think yeah they with us

Apple is def looking scary in the future as far as privacy things go. That CP thing plus the image scanning they're doing (which is something I suppose Google also did with Pixel) so you can do drag and drop. You're essentially gonna have no rights on your phone before long

just opens the door for them to do whatever

I can't speak to where the game was, but i remember dropping like 450 on one of the two best (I was an android nerd and scanned for this s*** everywhere) mid range "flagship killers", and that s*** was ATROCIOUS software wise

camera was ass, s*** started vibrating after about a year, s*** got hot, etc etc. I think the company OnePlus really raised the standard for mid ranges, but I still don't think I'd go with a good mid range android over a deadstock iphone from like 3 years ago

Most androids only get like 2-3 years worth of updates.

Flossy Carter and Unbox therapy stay reviewing a midrange android with flagship specs.

Heck alot of them gaming phones be having flagship specs

it's all personal preference, I have owned both over the years

they both have pros and cons

for me the big reason I like Android devices more is that they always have had better screen technology in the high end while Apple is never on the bleeding edge.. also having better file management is a big plus

having less optimized Apps and a slower CPUs is a downside but I mostly use the Web and Google Apps (YouTube, YouTube Music, Google home, Chromecast, Gmail, Chrome/Brave) which are optimized better for Android

integration with my Macs would be nice tho, so if you have Apple devices and are used to airdrop / data sharing it's something to consider

social media apps are better optimized but I only use Twitter

if you're taking Selfies on Tik Tok / Snapchat / Instagram all day you'll probably enjoy the iPhone more

iMessage is the only reason why I am on iPhone. It’s trash tbh that going to another phone will mean my messages experience gets worse

  • Sep 27, 2021

I prefer the look, feel, and ease of use.

Like everyone else I hate the lack of flexibility with storage and file management but with android there are way too many things to do and is hella distracting for me who rather wouldn't be on my phone 24/7.

All apps seem to look and perform better on iPhone too.

I swore I'd never even let myself find out what Android is like. But I broke my iPhone and am using one. Love the flip part but holy s*** the software sucks. I've used it for 6 months now and there's so many holes in the basic functions, seemingly at random so I can't even adapt to the glitches. I somehow knew it would be this way before I used Android and I was right. Maybe it's different for others but hard to believe. In saying that it is annoying how slow Apple innovates their phones

  • Sep 27, 2021

Ios15 looks fye might have to finally invest in one

  • Sep 27, 2021

i think the average lifespan of a flagship android for security updates is roughly 2-3 years (and this number only got this far after years of complaints), while apple pushes them out for an average of 5 - i think that's reason enough for me lol

(i will try and find a source but these were the numbers i recall seeing last)

You musta gotten and old android or something.

  • Like Flossy Carter says, if you been on an iphone for the last 3 phones, try out an Android, and if you been on and Android for the last 3 phones, try out an iPhone. All this brand loyalty and stannery is clownish

    What’s wrong with it?

  • I posted this in another thread but it’s relevant here:
I’m currently in the same boat as OP. Using my siblings iPhone 12 since they’ve upgraded. The whole home ui is terrible
To change icons takes so much effort with shortcuts etc and that’s just a horrible implementation to get round to customising and there’s barely any decent widgets. The App Library section is a cluttered mess. They should at least let you choose the categories you want to have. The default apps thing is only valid for a few apps only. For example I want to use Apollo for any Reddit links that I google up but instead you either have to use the actual Reddit app which is trash or open it on the web browser which is limited. I know you can share the link then open but that’s just a stupid extra step. In android you set whatever app you wanna use and then from then on it will always use that app to open. So many years and they only starting to implement things that were on Android like 10 years ago. One thing I will give them is the camera system is great. Im going to give this a couple weeks before I make my mind up. Going on holiday next week so perfect time to use as a daily driver

Further update post holiday: I still hold the same views above. I really tried to be open to it and the crazy thing is I’m a former iPhone user lol but it’s just too limited in terms of the ui/layout/design. Apple are known for design but their icons are horrible and doesn’t even go together. The same green phone and message icons from years ago a grey camera icon next to it its just not pleasing. Android UI layout is not that great either out the box but they let you set up how u like without the clutter. The locked file system is horrible. Having files set up in individual apps instead of accessing it from anywhere is long. People always say Apple runs the apps better and I didn’t have issues with it but I’ve never had issues with a flagship android either. I feel like that was a thing years ago but people still hold on to it. I’ve compared photo shots with an s21 on holiday and the iPhone struggled at times getting the shadows and skin tones wrong. Both are great cameras tho but Videography is on another level on the iPhone. Everything looks so crisp and the stabilisation is next level. It can’t be touched. The YouTube app is terrible and I can’t believe the Picture in Picture mode is a premium feature. YouTube vanced is a million times better than YouTube itself with auto skip sponsors (life changing) and volume/brightness gestures so I guess that spoilt me. The battery lasted a day which is great but flagships all do nowadays. Overall thinking about it the only thing I liked was the camera but android cameras are not even bad. I’d rather have a A-/B+ camera with unrestricted control than an A+ camera and a s***ty ui

6+ years of OS/security updates, better customer support, and are almost flawless when in the Apple ecosystem. This is coming from someone who had Samsungs for a decade too.

    The Krab Season

    What’s wrong with it?

Obviously I mentioned glitches but what I meant by that is functions in the UI, and also inside apps, can randomly not operate correctly which is hard to adapt to because they occur randomly. This is really frustrating coming from an iPhone user where glitches occur a lot more infrequently, by a longshot, and even when certain functions do crash it can be anticipated after minimal use.

Plus my sense of the overall UI in an example, feels like a corporation taking the responsibility of the creativeness of a product, as oppose to letting an artist handle the creativity, if I were to put it in an a***ogy. It just seems like they're missing the mark in flow. It gives the sense that they don't think it matters as much because of all the other compatibilities they offer. Whereas Apple cares about the flow enough, even though they offer less compatibility in some areas. Hope that helps
